@vbscript24 жыл бұрын
@@heyrod59 motoman's comments were joking and were making Back to the Future references. AF1's COM radio isn't "too powerful" for ATC towers. The recordings we're hearing are not what the controllers were hearing. They have antennas at the field that can pick up aircraft on the ground just fine. What we're hearing is recordings from LiveATC, which is a network of random people who live near the airport and have receivers set up to stream the audio to LIveATC. This often results in poor reception for aircraft moving on certain parts of the field, due to buildings in the way and such. AF1 would not have been parked at the passenger terminal where the other aircraft were. It was most likely off in some remote corner of the airport that whoever has the receiver streaming KLAS Ground can't pick up signals from well. Note that you can hear AF1 just fine on the Tower frequency once they're airborne. Once aircraft are airborne, it's much easier for ground stations that aren't actually on the field itself to pick up their transmissions, since they usually then no longer have buildings and such in the way.

Very professional radio procedure by all concerned. At first I thought that the pilots (actually, probably first officers) who were told to hold for 20 min were slow on the uptake, but then it occurred to me that the special procedures were probably published via NOTAM as a 24 or 48 hour window, but the actual time of departure was probably withheld for security reasons.

My coolest delay for something like this was interesting from a passenger perspective. We were flying into Tampa into some severe thunder storms. Had moderate turbulence on final but the pilot did a great job getting the plane down safely and stopped. The pilot informed us due to lightning in the area we were being held in place on the tarmac, and you could see all other planes stopped. We were told every time lightning strikes within a certain radius of the airport we had to stop and wait 5 minutes, if after 5 minutes no more strikes happened in that radius we could continue taxi, but if another lighting strike happened we reset the 5 minute timer. We get rolling and lighting strikes and we stop again one or two times and while stopped the 3rd time I noticed 1plane still taxiing to the terminal/gates and Al other planes were stopped. That plane gets to the gate and a few minutes later us and all other planes got cleared to gates. We get off the aircraft and on the TVs in the terminal Casey Anthony had just landed at the same air port was being loaded into a motorcade out front. They were flying her in from wherever she was being held safely for her trial next day. So I think they stopped all the planes using lighting as an excuse to get her plane to the gate and have security get her from the plane to a car out front.

The verbiage used of Whiskey Golf were either the call-signs, identifiers of other aircraft (I don't remember when they were used) or they were used to IDENTIFY which taxi way or exit for aircraft to use...sort of like 1st Avenue and/or Main Street...but runways, especially those at an international airport will have multiple "taxiways" or entrance/exit ramps or streets....they are the large caution yellow colored with black letters and numbers in the grass along the tarmac designating for the pilot where to turn to either go to the runway or to exit....That specific airport has TAXIWAYS or streets F, E, D, W, and Y AS AN EXAMPLE... F=FOXTROT...E = ECHO... D = DELTA...W = WHISKEY....Y = YANKEE... ps. i'M RATHER CONFIDENT YOU WERE BEING FUNNY AND TBH YOU WERE...BUT JUST IN CASE OTHERS WERE NOT AWARE, AS A PILOT I FELT THE NEED TO INTERJECT... Proximity? It was departure, so maybe the itenary ended somewhere were near to KLAS and security thought it was more secure to drive the short distance to KLAS, load to Air Force One and get POTUS airborne. Instead of having to motorcade through the city to Nellis. Hence also why they most likely were in such hurry to get Airforce one airborne. They didn't want to hang around minute more than needed once VIP was on board. I would assume the Air Force One would have waited at Nellis under the better protection of the base security and just arrive to KLAS to pick up the passangers.

On Windows you can go on accessibility settings and turn on "mono" audio. So both channels will go to both years, for our purpose here, it would make the audio come to both ears. On windows 10 go to search and type "mono" and it will appear there the option. On other OSes there are similar options as well, such as MacOS, Android, etc... But don't forget to turn it back off, obviously, otherwise music/movies won't sound as immersive as you expect.

Air Force 1 needs a new VHF radio.

Its because the radio's are too powerful and very close to the tower

What aircraft will replace the aging 747 fleet as Air Force One? Will we allow our Commander-in-Chief to fly on a two engined aircraft?
@rztrzt4 жыл бұрын
New 747-8's have been purchased to replace the ageing 747-200's. The planes were originally destined for a now-bankrupt Russian airline, they've never left Boeing's ownership or the USA and were stored in the Cali desert after completion & flight testing. Boeing was also awarded the contract to retrofit them.

Not likely, the redundancy of having four generators to run everything on board to keep the president and plane safe out weighs two.

found a couple articles talking about possibly a hypersonic jet from a company called Hermeus that can travel at mach 5.

Probably not. If they can keep getting 747s (and they can), then that’s what it’s gonna be. It’d be tough for USA to have a 2-engine plane for POTUS, even just for optics and security/size - There are still at least a few other world leaders (Japan and China at least) who also fly in 747s- highly unlikely US would downgrade before other countries ever did.

Talk has it that when President Kennedy landed at London Heathrow he had a hairdresser come onboard to fix him up before descending the steps. This delayed a lot of aircraft movements.

im wondering qwhy they chose McCarran internation instead of Nellis air force base

Surprised Donnie didn't spray paint his name on the side of AF1.

Why wouldnt AF1 go to Nellis AFB and prevent the delays?
@djtexas49932 жыл бұрын
Depends on POTUS destination- if POTUS is just going to, say, somewhere on the strip, Secret service wants the plane as close as possible to destination (which would be LAS). minimizes distance in motorcade.

why not use Nellis AFB?
@4wheeling3 жыл бұрын
And inconvenience the president? LAS is right off the strip. Nellis is a little out of town and would have screwed up traffic to an amazing degree with ground transport.
@djtexas49932 жыл бұрын
I think secret service looks at how far the motorcade would have to travel , and LAS is way closer to the strip, quick car ride and back to the airport. It seems like for years LAS has been used for POTUS and Nellis hasn’t . They do park the second 747 at Nellis though.

@@djtexas4993 what about Marine One! No need for a motorcade at all. They can land on the lawn of The Trump Hotel.
@djtexas49932 жыл бұрын
@@cherifbar True, except there’s always a need for a motorcade. And Marine One is going to involve bringing those choppers along for the whole ride, being shipped inside another huge military aircraft. I believe he was only in Vegas for campaigning. They take the copters to international summits, Camp David, etc. it’s quite enough to just take the pair of Cadillac Ones/The Beasts!. I was in Vegas after one of his visits eating at a restaurant he had been to. They told us he’d gone back to the kitchen and given every single member of staff a $100 tip, haha. Regardless of the other stuff I did always like the way he tipped people.
