Oh , that little faux pas with counter sinking the pads..... I think most of us watching this video have found ourselves in the same predicament more than once. Well that is a heck of an idea! Works really well, on pavement and grass. I have often though of modifying my box blade to work more like a land plane, and of course unbolt it and go back to a box blade. We have a gravel driveway and I like the way the land plane lightly turns it up.

@@MJADoingStuff I think it would be as simple as adding that angled bar in the middle that you could bolt in and unbolt. I use the tractor a lot to maintain the driveway and the land plane mod and a hydraulic top link would be awesome. I’ll start with the land plane mod in the spring maybe.

Nice idea, IdeaMan! Now we just need a good healthy dose of snow to give it a real test. I made a video last winter using my box-blade for making trails in our forest, but I left 3-4 inches of snow and it hardened up nicely by the next day. Good walking trails. Thanks 👍 It’s a lot cheaper than the ploy edge stuff and gets the job done. We just got the plasma cutter and it is really easy to use. I have used a oxygen and acetylene torch for over 20 years and the plasma still cuts cleaner and faster. Happy Holidays Thanks for leaving a comment 😁👍🚜💨🎄🍻

You don't really need the skids if you roll the front cutting edge up so it doesn't dig in, just roll it one way or the other depending on which way you've going. It works great with a hydraulic top link

Cool idea, when I was watching the spots where the new shoes were cleaned really well. What about putting wear strip right across under the regular blade, so the front edge matches up? It was sunny side today here, but -30°C. Stay warm 🌴🎄🍻

How's she goin'? This is a really nice mod and I like it a lot!!! The composite pads will wear but that's OK, they can be replaced. Slots in the angle iron to allow for adjustment up and down a bit may reduce the need for fussing with the top link adjustment. Just sayin'. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas!!!

Cut a three inch PVC pipe to fit the width of your forward facing scraper blade, cut a slot down one side with a metal cutting blade on a jig or sabre saw and slip it on. Now you don't have to worry about messing up your driveway, grass or gravel.

How long do the composite planks last?

I get the more plastic kind of compost decking and used it on the driveway and back yard last season and this season so far it is still good but composite decking is not as cheap anymore. Still a good price for what I need. I can probably get 2 winters out of a set. 😁👍🚜💨🍳
