Excellent detail sure beats trying to run my N Scale Layout 15' X 9' with 2 levels on my own getting to the stage I need another pair of hands. Great work and certainly shows thinking outside the Box. Sorry, Couldn't help the pun. Cheers from North Queensland Australia.

Do you have a list of the various track parts, and details of what cutting down you needed to do to fit into the boxfile? Cheers, mate.

That is a GREAT little layout. Now I'm not as familiar with European rails, so I'm assuming the coal is shoveled out of the hoppers?

Hi Jason, since you seem to be an expert on tight radius kayo track do you know whether a gwr pannier tank will go around the kato compact oval (150mm radius) curves?
@canuckprogressive.3435 Жыл бұрын
This is a layout someone might actually be able to afford to build.
@JAMESDEMU-RailwayModeller10 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, Cant find this information in the comments so have to ask. Where did you get your box from please? The only ones I have/can find are too narrow to fit the 117mm curves in them and cant find a supplier of a wider box.
@nscalefun8 жыл бұрын
AWESOME!!!!! Keep up the good work.
@paulbrennan37604 жыл бұрын
What track did you use to get such a tight radius? I thought I was doing well to get 6” from peco flexi track that must be no more than 4” radius? Incredible - never mind it’s in the video if I watched it all the way through lol
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy33944 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul, You've spotted it's 117mm then, I think that Tomix do a slightly tighter curve in their N gauge range but it's tricky to get in the UK. The real issue with these tight radius ovals is finding locos that will run round them!!!
@jonathanwilson7733 жыл бұрын
I love your layout. It is a great inspiration for me to make one. I have bought the track that you use but it does not fit into the boxfile I have. What size box file did you use? Thank you.
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy33943 жыл бұрын
375x275mm should do the trick, or larger if you can get it. They do vary in size though as you’ve found!
@jonathanwilson7733 жыл бұрын
@@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy3394 Thank you very much for the reply. I will hunt one down.

I wonder if using those bags of ballast that you get for the track and painting it black would make more realistic coal?
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy33948 жыл бұрын
That's exactly how I did it to keep the coal in scale
@6milphil9755 жыл бұрын
I'm so impressed by this I'm considering making one for a chum for his birthday, he's always wanted a layout but has never had the chance. Is there a build log somewhere for this? I'm a competent enough modeller but not done railways so any pointers would be very useful. Thanks.
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy33945 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The only build log as such is the end of the Video which shows the build sequence. I always tackle my micros by going through the build sequence in my head as the order may change dependant upon design and accessibility once the build starts......no different to a full size layout I guess. Good luck with yours.
@6milphil9755 жыл бұрын
I guess I was being optimistic for full instructions. ;)
@thoughtengine7 жыл бұрын
How did you construct the baseboard? What is it composed of? Is it necessary to have a frame, or will I get away with sticking a sheet into the bottom of the box? (I've just bought 3 boxes for just this purpose...)
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy33947 жыл бұрын
The base is foam board, which is old sign boards from my work. They're light and very rigid. You'd be able to stick it straight to the inside of the boxfile.

I've been following your progress on this on the ngauge forum, its good to see it in action. Excellent work. So whats next then ?
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy339410 жыл бұрын
Another boxfile! ....same street scene but 70 years apart each side of a viaduct running across the width of the boxfile. Should be a quicker build as there will be less scratch building. Watch this space Chris

How did you make the turnout? Is that 62mm as well?
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy33948 жыл бұрын
I had to cut the turnout down, I've shown the cut in the 'build' section of the video. It's then a glue and solder job!

@liamferra96217 жыл бұрын
how did you get the curve to fit in the box..?
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy33947 жыл бұрын
117mm radius Kato unitrak curves
@liamferra96217 жыл бұрын
Jason Pierce and the class 08 ran round it okay?
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy33947 жыл бұрын
Only the older Farish class 08's as they have more axle movement than the new ones. J94's share the same chassis so they work as well. A Dapol terrier will run round also but only in reverse!
@jcke-21438 жыл бұрын
How do I get one of these?
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy33948 жыл бұрын

Jason Pierce how do I get the train in the first place?
@thoughtengine7 жыл бұрын
A Hornby set would be too big; they don't make N trains. Try Graham Farish, or Dapol. Or use an A3 size box.
