CanditoTrainingHQ Box jumps are also easier for ppl with long legs, so that David Trout had the advantage but you still whooped him. Your center of gravity is much higher than his on your jump.
@CanditoTrainingHQ

neoswordian91 Thank you! I'd say my vert is about 36 flat footed but haven't tested it formally. I want to get to where I can throw down some legit dunks rather than barely dunking. It should be interesting since when I did dunk, I didn't do any jump training leading up to it.
@neoswordian91
@neoswordian91 10 жыл бұрын
If you can dunk on 10 feet at only 5'7 your vert has to be higher than 36 inches. You need to touch about 10'6 minimum to dunk, so a 7'6 standing reach would be 36 inches. Problem is, at 5'7 your reach is probably a few inches less than 7'6.

Definitely! Give me time to finish this training cycle then I might have to find a gym. I don't think I'll push the box jumps too much further because it gets to a point where it's more about reaching for the box than actually jumping higher. Whereas dunking would be a much better way to clearly show raw vert leap and is something that I'd love to do more of.

@CanditoTrainingHQ
@CanditoTrainingHQ 10 жыл бұрын
Thank you man! I was assuming you'd have something in store as a response considering your setup was less than ideal for the first one haha. 55 would be really tough to beat, I think I'm gonna need a different setup too if you hit that number. I wish there was an easy, safe way to max out on box jumps but it seems like the only way would be a soft plyo box like the ones by muscedriver.

LOL everything you said is wrong. He's not a very good long jumper, like he said. He doesn't have the build and he's slow. 100m and LJ are correlated the best. And he'd do even worse if you gave him that approach you mention. Sry doe.
@MattDoesFitness
@MattDoesFitness 10 жыл бұрын
Dubya Dee 100m and long jump do not necessarily correlate. A standard long jump approach is around 40m and so 100m speed is largely irrelevant. Acceleration & top speed are the key factors. I know lots of world class long jumpers who are nowhere near world class 100m sprinters

Holy smokes, that's one hell of a vertical, looked somewhat easy for you. Is that your max?
@CanditoTrainingHQ
@CanditoTrainingHQ 10 жыл бұрын
I have never fully maxed out on box jumps. To do that I'd likely need a better setup. It just becomes too dangerous. And if you see other people who really max out their box jump, often times they just increase their ability to reach for the box moreso than their actual vertical (hip height is often just barely over box). So I'm content with just jumping as high as possible with some wiggle room to make sure I don't have any possible unexpected consequences from a missed attempt lol.

Hey Jonnie, quick question bro, I'm currently on your 6 week strength program and while I'm gaining strength in my squat and bench press my deadlift has decreased dramatically, I feel like I am not doing conventional deadlifts often enough and I'm losing the movement pattern and flexibility, also feel as if I have lost conditioning in the lower body compared to before so now after I squat I can't deadlift as much as my legs feel tired, is there anything you could suggest? Thanks for any feedback.

@CanditoTrainingHQ
@CanditoTrainingHQ 10 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah I'm thinking if I can get a wider platform to jump on it'll be much easier. Since with these plates I'm landing with a narrow stance, my hips have to be a good amount above the box height. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get a better setup though. I think I'd have to venture outside of my gym for it if I do.

Thank you, yes. Well it depends on if I am training for explosiveness. I'd say I go periods of just training for strength only, then on other training cycles work in explosive exercises as well as the strength work. Box jumps and squat jumps are by far my 2 favorite power movements.

great hops but doesn't it make it easier because your jumping on something that has some give? the big thing under the plates goes down as you hit it. or does it make no difference? what is your standing vert? and did you do any warmups before attempting this box jump?
@BLaQz84
@BLaQz84 10 жыл бұрын
He has to get on top of it for it to give, so I'd say it doesn't matter...
@CanditoTrainingHQ
@CanditoTrainingHQ 10 жыл бұрын
No it won't make any difference because I have to clear the plates before it compresses. The landing has no impact whatsoever as far as how difficult it is. As far as my warmups, it's a bit of an interesting story. I did this at 1:40 AM right after stopping at a gas station which is why you can see a diet coke bottle on the bench in the background. I was going to just come to the gym to measure the boxes for future reference. So I didn't warm up extensively since I wasn't working out. But I figured nobody was around so I just started box jumping, gradually increasing the height by a plate each rep. I did this video in about 15 min.
@BostonSportsGuy567

If the surface "gives" it means that the normal force provided when he's pushing off the ground would be less, making the jump even harder. Imagine jumping off soft play-doh.
@MrJ1S
@MrJ1S 10 жыл бұрын
BostonSportsGuy567 what hes landing on gives, not the ground. a box jump doesn't count unless you can stick the landing. so i was thinking that it made it easier to stick the landing. if he was jumping off something soft then yes you would be right
@MrJ1S
@MrJ1S 10 жыл бұрын
CanditoTrainingHQ does it make it easier to stick the landing? box jumps dont really count unless you stick the landing right? and mant i i gotta warm up in a suana and then dynamic stretch to open up my hips just to jump on something 41inches. if you did some stretch//warmup i guesss you could clear 60.

CANDITO- yo im doing your program and when doing the other movements that arent being tracked with percentages like the OH dumbell press...when u ask for 3 sets of 6 lets say, should those 3 sets be of my max 6 reps or ?
@CanditoTrainingHQ
@CanditoTrainingHQ 10 жыл бұрын
It should be a weight where it is difficult but not to failure. So let's say your 6 rep max doing one all out set would be with 55 lbs dumbbells. Then you'd likely want to use 45 lbs DB's for the 3 sets of 6. You should have a rep or 2 in the tank but still some quality intensity overall.
