Absolutely going through a similar thing. Here are a few why not Powerlifting right now: 1. I do believe that reaching the top is an underlying goal for most competitors. The likelihood of becoming a national champion (initial goal) or higher is basically zero now with how strong the top competitors are and my rate of progress. 2. So if not champion, then just be strong. Leads to me thinking what is strong, what am I actually impressed by. When you take a step back from the Powerlifting scene you can see a wider lens. I feel that strength isn’t ONLY defined by competition 1 rep maxes with Low Bar wide stance squats, super high arch benching, and Sumo Deadlifts. I feel strength/what I am impressed with is more defined by long ranges of motion lifts, repping weight out, using the heavy dumbbells in generic bodybuilding lifts, basic calisthenic movements , and conditioning. 3. We (powerlifters) are so unbalanced and unfit. Just do 1 workout with someone that is not a powerlifter or bodybuilder; Running, CrossFit, swimming, etc. You will quickly eat humble pie and realize how un fit , not-athletic you have become. Elephant in the room for most powerlifting enthusiast is the lack of conditioning. Too unfit to meet any task at hand besides lift very heavy competition movements for 1-3 reps. Which leads me to my current training style of more Hybrid Training : (4x lift , 3x cardio) - SBD still incorporated but less emphasis, heavily prioritizing cardio and bodybuilding sessions. I don’t know if this is an over reaction , but I know I currently want to be more well rounded. I’ve spent enough time in one direction that it is worth exploring other avenues.

Deadlift done right…terrific work bud. I started deadlifting at 35. I’m 37 and still hitting Pr’s. My back feels incredible. Deadlifts, rows, pull-ups & lat pulldowns & pull overs. Heavy weight makes the lady’s legs quake

I always used sumo primarily for working out legs but going heavy for it was unnecessary, 2-3 plates for volume would always truly get my legs fully pumped and target them entirely

Hello, Mr. Candito. I'm doing my 2nd 6 week run now. This will also be my last for a while because your week two in this program broke my spirit 😂. Anyways, going for 140kg bench PR end of this program. Thank you for pushing me!!

Bible verses, terrible music and rambling confusing lifting talk. Jonnie used to be fun weird, now he's become creepy weird. Please go back to relatable fitness content, its what everyone wants, not this weird esoteric clickbait stuff.
