I have to remove the bed off my 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.0, SLT 4x4 ext cab, short bed. Seems the lowest corner of cab on passenger side has a small hole, roughly the size of a quater (25 cent piece) and i need to repair it before it gets worse. Your vidio is very detailed and informative on "how to" remove the bed giving me the confidence to do it myself but will have someone help lift and remove. Thank you for the video.

You are correct, I'm removing 2004 GMC 1500 (extended cap) bed. If I may add to your already excellent video , If you just take the hose clamp off of the fuel filler tube near the frame underneath, the hose pops right off, no need to remove the filler neck from the outside, in my view ,1 hose clamp is faster than removing bolts.Thanks for the good help,it got me started on mine

@MudRFunR
@MudRFunR 7 жыл бұрын
I never really considered Ontario as east. I guess if you're west then we are obviously east :) Yes they used to use more salt than they have is past years. Now they spray (I'm told it's pickle juice) liquid on the road before the bad weather starts. It's supposed to stop the road from getting slippery. Also I was told that it's worse than salt. Thanks for your comment, hope all goes well!
@jimhalbert2290

I live in ory-gun in the valley. there's no salt on the roads. It rains year round with maybe 4 days of snow. you won't find rusty cars unless there from the 70's sitting in someones muddy yard. I was in Minnesota for a bit. It was crazy 10 year old cars on the road rusted up to the doors.

We also have a 2008 Malibu. The driver side is rotten all the way around the rear driver side fender. The body shop said that a lot of newer cars have foam behind the metal for noise reduction but water (and salt) soaks into the foam and just stays there.

@@masterstoner666 Honestly, I'm a bit scared of gas fumes. If you dare, then use a shield to divert the sparks away from the tank. A thin sheet of aluminum or tin. If you can get to it with a drill bit, you can drill a small hole in the center of the bolt head. Not too deep. Keep using slightly bigger drill bits until the bolt head pops off.

On the rear two bolts of the bed do you know if they have a but welded to the frame on the other side I am trying to remove the bed from a 03 2500 Silverado and the one rear bolt sits there and spins as if there’s a bit on the other side the has to have a wrench or socket on it also which would not make sense because there’s no way to get in there. I'm not sure if I can answer this completely. What I do know is that starting in 2004 they changed some of the interior. The window switches are different from earlier years, so I would assume some of the wiring would be changed. Also had some changes to the dash. 2004, some have a cabin filter, some don't. Heater controls were changed, I think in 2005. That's all I know for sure.

would the bed of a 1500 fit a 2500hd?

I am not certain, but I can't see why it wouldn't fit providing the box is the same length.

the only thing I want to add is will you're under there is change the fuel pump and the fuel filter dump alll that old gas out because it's contaminated I understand lifting the bed working on it on top is it good thing but all that old gas is still in the tank that caused the problem in the first place dump the tank people please don't cause twice the effort yes lifting the bed is easier but just sending old gas back into the pump and filter again drop it stop all that crap out of there the old cliche is do it right the first time the reason why you are replacing pump and filter is from old gas don't suck that old gas into your new filter and pump

I don't understand what this video has to do with the fuel pump? The box is being removed to repair the cab corners.

Sorry to hear that you dislike GM so much. I have 2 GM rotboxes. Both of them are high mileage vehicles but I can't get myself to get rid of them. They both drive great, run great and never cost much to keep them maintained.

@Shovel84 "They all rust from this era..." Well, that makes me feel so much better as I watch my $45,000- investment turn into a worthless pile of scrap. And No, they don't "all rust from this era". My wife's Subaru from the same era, exposed to far more road salt, hardly has a spot of rust on it. It's never blown out it's brake lines, never rotted out it's fuel lines, the body mount brackets on the frame aren't falling off... It did cost $15k less then what my "professional grade" truck did. Numerous friends & family have assorted cars/trucks from the same era, in the same area that are a night & day difference. GM used the lowest grade, shittiest steel they could possibly get their hands on and cut corners in every conceivable regard. Every part on my "American Made" truck was Made in China. I've been driving for over 35 years, had cars & trucks all the way back to the 1970's, I've never seen anything even close to this bad. I have no confidence to even put weight in it or try to tow with it anymore. It's a nightmare, sponsored by GM.

How long did it take to replace the cab corners? I have to do that and the rocker panels. I've never done it before and have never welded. I was thinking of using this new epoxy cement for body work and rivets. Thanks for the good video, it was shot really well. I don't know if it will work but here is the product I was thinking of trying 3M Body Adhesive. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJe3ZpyGoKusj5I

If you include removing and reinstalling the box, It took the better part of 2 weeks. I was on holidays, so I worked full days on it. I've heard that the epoxy works well. Never tried it myself. It may take less time than welding. Hope all goes well!

@@MudRFunR Thanks, me too. I'd rather pay $4.99 per gallon of gas than have to by a newer USED truck. Prices have gotten totally ridiculous.
