Don’t you think fiberglass cloth and resign on the inside to reinforce it and fiberglass filler on the outside would’ve been a lot stronger ? That’s at least how I did mine
@Johnnymidnight10 ай бұрын
Nope, they’re not fibreglass, a flexible filler is necessary,or it will just break away if bumped again
@BryanClark-gk6ie11 ай бұрын
Repaired several of those' I always drilled a series of 1/4 holes on both sides of the split for squeeze out to adhere to the fiber glass tape.

Very good video I’m doing repairs on one as well cuz they don’t make them but I’m using fiberglass and resin to repair and bondo mixed with fiberglass to fill in the repairs. Finally someone made a video of these fenders. There is nothing out there to show what ppl have done to repair. Thank you for the good video

Absolutely an awesome video!!! Can I ask what is the trick of getting the fiberglass well liner out and back in without taking the bedside lose?
@Johnnymidnight10 ай бұрын
I loosen pretty much everything you can reach in order to get those out, always a pain in the butt….🙃
@DHeck-le5mm10 ай бұрын
Hey Johnnymidnight Do you loosen the bed side bolts to get the fiberglass wheel well out? I do have concerns of flexing the bedside too much on re+-installing after bedside has been repaired? TKS
@Johnnymidnight10 ай бұрын
Yes, I loosen pretty much all the bolts up the front that I can reach, but they’re still tricky

You betcha, I’ve repaired lots of bumper covers, cladding, Harley fairings and bags, all kinds of plastic with this stuff. It comes in flexible and rigid
@zacdrilling4554 Жыл бұрын
Boy did that turn out great, nice work. Did you only use that blue stuff or after your second coat did you use traditional body filler before your primer coat??
@Johnnymidnight Жыл бұрын
Thanks, completely done with the flexible plastic filler, I try to never use regular filler on plastic, cracks too easily if it flexes

Nicely done good sir, I have cracking happening at the body line just above marker lights. Most likely it was repaired prior to me owning it as the box was completely rock gaurded. I was wondering what you used to sand up the plastic filler to get it to look so beautiful? Thank you in advance for making this video as it has given me the motivation to start these repairs on my 07 Classic dually. Cheers!
@Johnnymidnight9 ай бұрын
I usually just sand it with 120 at a fairly low speed, the dominion sure seal plastic surgery sands pretty nice

life saver Video. I have to repair my fender as well. but no fenders to be found by the shop. so i'm going to try this. i do have a some questions though, like what grit was used to prep the area for the filer for the best adhesion?

100 grit is typically what I use 👍🏼👍🏼

hi John , as i read the box of Plastic surgery repair . it state to prime with flex primer and to clean the area with sure seal sure solv. or low VDC surface clearer. so my question is, is this a must used or is other brands ok to use?

I have this same model truck and same cracked fenders, going to try this! I'm missing pieces though. Do you reccomend fiberglass repair on those 1st?
@Johnnymidnight3 ай бұрын
Fibreglass won’t adhere to the polyurethane, and isn’t flexible. If you can get a wrecked bumper cover from something, or a piece from a wrecked bedside, that you can cut to fit the missing piece, it’s a better option.

do you have trouble heating the shop and paint booth when the cold weather arrives? Canada brrrr...
@Johnnymidnight Жыл бұрын
I have radiant heat that works well, but it’s an awfully big area, and an old shop… working is fine, but once it’s 25-30 below it’s too cold to paint

Is there a trick to get the inner liner in and out without removing the bedside?
@Johnnymidnight2 ай бұрын
I’ve always managed to get them out by unbolting the braces, and the bolts up the front. It’s still very tight, but the bedside can be pulled out just enough
