I am shopping for toilets and I would love to love to have a hassle-free experience. Is this something that I should ask a plumber: if they will purchase it from a professional-grade store? Where can we purchase toilets so that they will be properly packaged. I don’t want to waste my time or a plumber‘s time.

I've had pretty good experience buying toilets from box stores, it's not a common occurrence to find a broken one or one that has a manufacturing error. It comes up but nobody talks about how many good ones there are so it makes it look like there are more bad ones than they're actually are. As far as the boxes go, I can carry a box by myself but with two people, it's easy.

I'm a contractor and it's not just toilets that are damaged from big box stores, it's everything. It has been getting worse over the past year or so with employees caring less about their job and customer service tanking. I try to go to the stores that i get the better service. I work in maintenance at my job and every single American standard cadet we have has developed multiple cracks in the trap way and are starting to leak. We have never snaked any of them so there is no reason for it besides poor quality.

Had exact same toilet from HD installed, but having enough experience I always put paper under toilet in many places and flush like 10-20 times, and it kept getting wet. slowly, after resetting it 2 times, checked carefully under and it was leaking from similar place you are showing, had to go get another one.... and one American Standard developed similar leak within 6 months of install, however at time of install all was great...

Not sure I agree. I've installed many toilets from costco and home depot, never ran into a problem. Not saying it can't happen, but it just sounds like you had a bad steak of luck.

No. Because we don't know it the first breakage was our fault or not, we didn't charge them for any of the subsequent trips or toilets.

I do agree with you that it shouldn't be shoved in one giant box. But a lot of homeowners, especially if they DIY, can afford the cheaper box store toilet compared to plumbing supply stores.
