This is the way I remember my late friend Mac Sullivan, and his "Oklahoma Wranglers" singing it most every night, at his country restaurant/bar called "The Palomino Club " . I loved all the members of the band, especially his "Girl Singer" Betty Dempsey. She was a great singer, only 5'2, but lungs of an oprey star.! Memories of a kinder more gentle time in.my life in the 80/90's.

Boxcar makes a pretty good version of this, he was a really good entertainer and had a distinctive style. NOT run of the mill.
