Jake, so glad that you gave Boxcast a try! They are SO helpful.

We have a BoxCaster Pro at our church and highly recommend it if you are using a pro configuration with all SDI connections, and XLR audio if not embedded. The picture quality is nicely better and the connections with SDI and XLR are more reliable. The screen makes things so easy to check on how things are going if there are any problems like we sometimes run into with the internet at our location. It also gives a quick access to control the volume of the stream so that we don't overdrive it. I realize this is much more expensive than the regular BoxCaster, but for a church that is using all SDI connections this is a no brainer as you are used to this tier of gear and quality. That said, we still love the standard BoxCaster and have it as a backup just in case, or if we need to run an event somewhere else. If you are just using HDMI connections with your cameras and switcher then the standard BoxCaster may be perfect for you.

I’ve had pretty bad experiences with boxcast when it comes to audio metering, loudness, and preamp performance. Would not recommend. For those who are curious, at least on the unit I use every week, the xlr input metering is useless, wildly inaccurate, and will never allow you to get your mix up to -1dbfs peak loudness, clipping WAY before that - right around -15dbfs. But does that mean it’s just running at a lower gain setting and they’ll compensate for volume? Nope. It’s just a lot quieter. I took it up with support and they couldn’t tell me what metering they used, how i could possibly be clipping the preamps while sending such quiet signals, or if it was an issue they could fix. Not a pro piece of hardware IMO.

Thank you for making this video. I switched over from Resi about a month ago and I haven’t been getting the same video quality with the standard Boxcaster than I did from the Resi service. I think I’m going to pull the trigger based on this video.

We are using only one Macbook Pro 13' M1 base model with ATEM Mini) All the audio processing and video encoding is done by macbook only)

Just had to get a Boxcaster because our stream has been dropping a lot (rural area). We set it to the Enhanced setting in Flow. While I won't pay $3k for the pro, I'd pay $1k for a mid-level priced encoder that would allow us to use the maxim flow setting (Boxcaster does not. Not enough memory)

We use a 2012 i7 Mac mini ($300) with Wirecast Pro ($600ish) which streams to multiple destinations with local recording and NDI feeds throughout building. Hevc included.

So is it a capture card? What is it??

I don't understand why they are charging 10 times more. Through the use of converters, I, essentially, have the same features that the Pro has, but the cost isn't 10 times the price of the BoxCaster.

Do you have links from a service where you used a Boxcaster and a service with the Boxcaster Pro?

Interesting. But what of AV1 vs HEVC? Have the browser limitations of HEVC been resolved? Maybe it's no longer the issue it was a few years ago. I don't know.
@Churchfront3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's an issue anymore. Seems to work fine and looks great in all browsers for us.

Can you use this to stream to other platforms/rtmp or does it work solely with Boxcast?

Is this a legit alternative to Resi and their live-streaming platform?
@Churchfront3 жыл бұрын
Yes. If you go with the regular Boxcaster, it's a great value since the encoder is only $400 and streaming service is $100/mo. This boxcaster pro is definitely nice but not sure it's worth it for most churches.
