Hi Alan, familiar job, I used to have the same issue with my Denford Viceroy. Good explanation and demonstration. Cheers, Jon

A great explanation of how the back gear mechanism works!

Hi Alan, Thank you for the very good explanation as I also had that experience of a slipping belt. I had to run a cloth reaching the belt from underneath turning by hand. My Boxford 41/2 inch has a differetn headstock arrangement. The back gear lever is at the Left hand back end of the head stock and engages the back gear by turning the shaft in excentric bearings. The dog clutch is engaged/disengaged by lever at the front. There is only one square opening on the top of the headstock. I always find difficulty oiling as it seems that the oil does not enter through.

Just an thought. Could you replace the top cover with something like a 7mm thick piece of Perspex, Or make a metal frame to clamp down a piece of laminated glass? The inside would get splattered with oil, But I wouldn't think it would cover all of the surface, So you could still see through somewhere to gauge whether or not you were overfilling it. Something like Teflon spray could help keep the "window" clear for longer. If necessary, you could also put a couple of button oilers in the Perspex lid to allow you to drip some lube on the gears when needed.

What is the code number on the belt connecting the motor to the counter shaft? It looks like A700? I need to replace mine so if you could confirm that would be a huge help! Thanks. 👍

Hi since that video I have changed my motor for a digital drive the new belt is A27 13x690 if that helps

@@enotsengineering That does help thank you, I measured mine to be roughly 26.5" inches so I'm in the right ballpark at least! 👍

@@enotsengineering I’ve top one 80,the gear that will connect to the screw feed if it was there is 72 /18 so the 10 would directly drive the lead screw gear if that helps?

Think it's the wrong belt ours has a normal belt not one of those hard segment belts .
@Reman19754 жыл бұрын
Those are direct replacements. They're a fair bit more expensive than traditional rubber belts, But you can replace them without having to dismantle anything in the head. I think they're called something like a "Nut link" belt.

Mark, if yours is a solid belt not segmented I’d like to see you change it when worn out as im pretty sure you’d have to strip down the head to get your old belt off the main shaft. They are segmented belts so you can split the belt and feed it up and over the main shaft then rejoin it underneath.
