Hi Matt. Thanks for this video. I'm doing something similar in my daughter's Reno in a couple of weeks. Although hers won't be as much an intricate design as your mum's, just a basic rectangle design I'll save this vid and work off it. Way cheaper than having the electric company move the whole thing to an outside cabinet . Thanks again

Cheers Matt! That's the perfect illustration of just how fiddly these type of jobs are - especially in older houses where nothing is straight, plumb or true! I did a fair few of these back in the day, and I don't think I ever made money on any of them! 🤷‍♂ 👍

These are definitely tricky jobs! If I was doing anything differently I might use the push to open type latches instead of handles, and I might have been tempted to get the carcass up then scribe a panel to overlay and meet the walls so I could get a neat finish, but for a quick fix I think you did a great job!

Mum's and their son's it one of those time honoured traditions like an unwritten law, if mum wants something doing instead of asking husband to do it they alway's ask their son. I spent many years doing jobs around my parents house mainly because my dad was just totally useless at D.I.Y. this didn't stop until after my father passed away and if I'm being honest it only stopped because after my dad passed myself and my wife packed up all my mums belongings and made her move into our home to live with us. Great to see Matt that no job is too big or too small when it comes down to helping your mum and the finished product looks like they were there from the beginning, 💯% 👍.

Fascinated to watch this having just completed my own similar project. I learned some new possible approaches from you, so thank you! I needed to minimise the framing to allow access to the wiring - long story short, as part of this I used overlay doors. Because the overlay hinges are not adjustable (and I had to use double doors because of the width ) I ended up with the doors being marginally out of level with each other. But it seems that I am the only one who has noticed!

A nice job Matthew. I've a similar job to do at my Mam s house which I have been putting off. You've shamed me into starting it. It's nice to see you near your family again after your exile period up here in Durham. I listened to workshop banter this morning and have to say the vids in the tent /workshop look fine. Best wishes and i hope your dad is feeling better. Well done !👍

Recently worked in a house with a boxed in consumer unit and homeowner wasn’t best pleased when I said it needed to come out. So tight the lid wouldn’t come off and had even been filled around. The CU itself even had newspaper stuffed in the top!

This was good. One improvement that could be made was to leave the right hand panel over long at the top which you could have them scribed to the ceiling for a gapless finish. My woodworking is of a similar level to yourself but I am always striving to improve like you.

@@erictheviking672 Once you get the hang of scribing, it really does make a difference. Caulk would crack in a gap that large. Better just to leave it, not the end of the world.

Good wee job to do but definitely not as simple as it looks. It would look nice with a scaffold board shelf underneath the electric board side to balance the whole thing out. I did my parents as well and it was a nightmare with all the cable entries and conduit, walls all out of square and plumb. Took me a couple of days going back and forth.

Every time I look at fuse board boxing in I think how I would do it differently now. It bugs me 😂. Yours turned out well. One small thing I would have scribed the end panel to the ceiling. But easy from the arm chair when watching other people

Whilst snapping your Tape Measure shut may appeal to your Boyish nature, doing so damages the Hook end, which over time will lead to inaccurate measurement.
