I used to purchase very similar items from a farm in Texas, they used to rivet through the brass end casing from Winchester shotgun cartridges (just because it looks cool) - sadly they stopped making them a couple years back. Do you have a shop (Etsy? EBay?) where I could purchase one like this from you?

I think that may be a Richmond Work Bench Matt. I found a similar one dumped in a skip, a Richmond DIY040. The frame looks identical, but the 040 model has 4 way jaws. Seems we both have excellent finds. 👍

Thanks for this video. It was a massive help for me. I have the same set up only I am struggling to work out how I set up the router once it’s under the table. Have you done a video on using the T14? I’m not sure whether I need to plunge the router down to its full level in order for the router bit to come through the table. If I don’t plunge around to down, I struggle to get the route a bit to pop through the table by using the adjustment screw.

Nice video Matt - were you concerned about the base being level? Have been looking at ground screws for a new shed/workshop build, but these seem much more economical!

What about making shutters for the windows you need Old Time shutters
@MrDancingBishop3 күн бұрын
I'd probably use bolts right through. A plumbers wrench that thieves often carry will just pull the screws out with a twist. Also if they are permanent just bore the screws ain't nothing to get leverage if they'd even bother. I was told once that metal blinds are hated by thieves, make a racket and are very annoying. I rounded all my solar screws out 😅 sad we have to do this shiz

Now you have the bars in place that’s good. But if you still have too much light you could possibly adapt some shutters to clip on the bars so you can control the light, down side you would have to go outside to adjust them. Just a random thought.

As an afterthought...and for anyone building a workshop anew... some Georgian Wired glass or toughened safety glass is a thought....just to add to local criminals delemma.... Plus ...maybe a roller blind inside to prevent anyone peeking when you;re not there....or roller shutters outside. An Alarm?....OR EVERYTHING.....HA...Followed by a shotgun....and rabid dog...

Why not make shutters like they have on lots of houses in Europe.

Hi Matt, security is a must, just make it hard for some one who tries to break in. I think window bars is a good thing, and a good demonstration on making them and fitting them. As always a great video take care

Those hex screws can actually be turned using the right size of slot screwdriver. I have done this on a few occasions when I was too lazy to go and find a bit and I had screwdrivers on me. However most burglars won't know this so still a good choice of screw. As you said it's only going to act as a deterrent to hopefully make a potential burglar change their mind. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it.

Good idea, Matt, but I’d still be worried that people can see in when you aren’t there. Maybe pull down blinds (or a pretty lace curtain!!).

Really fantastic idea. My workshop is in my basement its got a ton of windows, but the views are not good. They sell a frosting paint that has been wonderful, Now i get all the light I need and privacy that i want. I do worry about security and a few bars would make it feel great.

The paint sounds interesting. I had never heard of that

You could fill the screw heads with superglue, then just use superglue solvent to melt it if you ever want to remove them. Not something a thief is going to carry with them and it's hard enough to make it harder to knock something into the heads to unscrew them.
@nh11nov3 күн бұрын
I would change those screws to one way security screws which can't be unscrewed.

@andyc9724 күн бұрын
Thanks Matt, as you rightly say all you can do is make it as inconvenient as possible, it's always a compromise ! You could always add some sort of blind or curtain inside for when the workshop is not in use but that won't of course hide what is on the shelves !

The best security system has four legs, a waggy tail and big teeth. Very few thieves, whether opportunistic or full-time professional, like to risk being savaged by an Alsatian, meat-seeking missile!

Matt I could not help listening to when you was doing the pilot holes outside it sounded like it was on like a hammer action just sounded like it I was not watching as I was doing my lunch security is one of the most difficult thing to get right at the end of the day and people would always find ways to get in the one thing I done when was out a couple of security cameras up that maybe something you could do as you can have one on the house and one on the workshop

You could build a couple of sky lights in the roof for your workshop it would let in plenty of natural light and save on electricity.
@colinwilson75244 күн бұрын
Not sure that is possible or the easiest thing to do for Badger as he used those metal clad PIR boards for his roof, not saying it is not possible just might be more hassle than its worth.

Could you add some pull down blinds inside for privacy and light management for when it's too bright?
@bigpete42274 күн бұрын
You're right. If they want to get in they will. All you can do is put them off as much as possible. A PIR light is a good idea, multiple locks that take time is another. A strip of wood with rusty nails sticking out of it on the top of a gate and an alarm are also good. Visible and invisible cameras can be bought cheap these days. The things we have to do 😮
