Highlights of Larry Holmes' great performance in his 1982 clash with tough Randall "Texx" Cobb.
TikTok: / hanzagod_1
Larry Holmes - Is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1973 to 2002 and was world heavyweight champion from 1978 until 1985. He is often considered to be one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. He grew up in Easton, Pennsylvania, which led to his boxing nickname of the "Easton Assassin". Holmes's left jab is often rated among the best in heavyweight boxing history. In addition to holding the WBC heavyweight title from 1978 to 1983, Holmes held the Ring magazine and lineal heavyweight titles from 1980 to 1985 and the inaugural IBF heavyweight title from 1983 to 1985.

By 1982 Larry Holmes was at the absolute peak of his powers having just defeated Gerry Cooney by TKO in his biggest fight to date. He was matched up in this fight that I'm showcasing here against the tough Randall "Tex" Cobb and in typical Easton Assassin fashion he completely nullified his opponents strengths with his incredible jab and distance control. This is a total masterclass on how to beat a pressure fighter with good fundamentals. www.patreon.com/haNZAgod

Another great video HanZa. At Larry's peak, I would put my money on him against any great from any era. Height, reach, JAB, skills, ring generalship, chin, recovery powers, heart and IQ, would have been too much for the vast majority of fighters. The only 2 is see we're Ali at his peak and Lennox stylistically, but he would have gotten Lennox out of there.

My favorite story about this fight was that Howard Cosell threatened to quit commentating on boxing matches if this fight wasn't stopped because of the beating Cobb took. It wasn't, and Cosell was a man of his word. When Cobb was told about this, he said he'd take that beating again if it meant Cosell would also stop doing Monday Night Football lol.

Cobb is hilarious. Howard Cosell said somethong to the affect that he was retiring from announcing fights because he found it discussing the beating Cobb took. After hearing it right after the fight Cobb said if Cosell promised to retire from announcing Monday night football he'd go right back in the ring and he'd go another 15 with Holmes.

Larry Holmes was one of the best heavyweights I've ever seen. Fast hands excellent Jab, great footwork, iron chin, stamina, good power. Larry Holmes is what Buster Douglas could of been if he kept training seriously.

Never realized how Larry was able to turn his jab into a left hook a split second before the punch landed. And that footwork: He could smoothly circle into both directions while throwing precise punches with both hands. Amazingly complete fighter. Shame Ali was out of his prime when he fought him. Shame he was out of his prime when he met young Tyson. Those would have been insane fights!

That footwork... That lightning left... And belive me at this fight Holmes had only 90-85% footwork. I guess he was aged a little bit. But i like your viewpoint and yeah Larry was a fully complete boxer. And he was a sportman too, maybe with a little bit more of bloodthirst he could be a sensational finisher. But he was one of the greatest anyway🎉❤.

Texx is a real-life version of that movie thug who could take a punch to the jaw and then smile like he actually liked it. He's also a hilarious comedian outside the ring. Larry Holmes was very good fighter, he doesn’t get the credit he deserves cause most historians like Bert Randolph Sugar, Jack Newfield, and Larry Merchant view him as a carbon copy of Muhammad Ali. But besides that he’s one of the best to ever get in the ring.

The best ever in my opinion. Larry Holmes was so durable he survived and got up immidietly after 2 knockdowns from Earnie Shavers the hardest hitter in boxing. So badass he was a top contender years after retirement even beating Ray Mercer and giving a good fight to prime Holyfield!!!! Not only that but The Easton Assassin had the best jab, insane stamina, one of the best defenses and footwork, good amount of power, focus ability of a tiger, top tier ring IQ and he was also master at slugging and swarming except for outboxing

Larry Holmes sometimes get a bad rep as the guy who retired Muhammad Ali (When Ali had some brain damage) and the guy smoked by Mike Tyson. But what people forget is that Larry Holmes took down Ken Norton, Leroy Jones, Tim Witherspoon and Ray Mercer in their PRIME, among others. He was a great champion, he was just given the unfortunate task of being the one to retire Ali (As Rocky Marciano was to Joe Louis). But he was still a great outfighter and great champion, a great athlete. He's a part of boxing history.
