Sugar Ray Leonard at his absolute best! This is one of his greatest performances as he learned from his mistakes in the Brawl in Montreal and used his superior speed / movement to outbox and befuddle Duran. 2 of the greatest of all time but on this night Leonard was tactically perfect and completely dominated a P4P legend. www.patreon.com/haNZAgod

Leonard won this fight as soon as the first fight finished... he got the quick rematch clause, k owing Duran parties and balloned - I think Sugar Ray's brother gave him the idea of taunting Duran... Duran is my favourite- but I love Sugar Ray... he could bang, move, high ring IQ, a true warrior

I'm so proud to say that I got to meet my all time favorite celebrity/sports star on a few occasions throughout the years. He came to my hometown of Albuquerque, NM right before the Hearns fight I believe, when I was just 16. I knew what hotel he was staying at, and decided to try a phone call. It's so unbelievable that his wife at the time, Juanita, answered the phone and was so nice, that she actually put him on. He was extremely nice to me, even though I was bothering him in his private time. Not many superstars would actually even get on the phone. But he talked to me for about 15 minutes and invited me to a gym he was going to be at later that day, but unfortunately I didn't have any transportation. But I did finally meet him a couple other times in the late 80s and early 90s. Such a nice, kind man, when he could have just said hi and bye really quick. Now he actually leaves messages for my 2 little nephews from time to time! Just really wanted to share these memories with everyone about the great Sugar Ray Leonard!!🥊🥊

@2:37 notice how frustrated Duran got with the mastery-level footwork of Leonard. Duran was reacting the entire fight. Letting Sugar Ray Leonard dictate the pace but also the flow, of the entire orchestration. He had no answer for Leonard's flow. Instead of initiating from time to time, Duran kept following, being hypnotized by Leonard's dancing and prancing that work ever so sweetly to his advantage. Duran had a hard time cutting off the ring because he s so "flat-footed". The "jack-Dempsey-Shuffle" would have done wonders against Sugar Ray Leonard. It' the only way to time it properly, and cut off the ring on such a crafty dancer like Sugar Ray Leonard. Thank you for ALL the uploads throughout the years, it has been very entertaining. Sugar Ray Leonard’s skill was EXTRAORDINARY…His mobility, evasiveness , footwork, broken rhythm and ability to see openings fast and to go through them was unmatched…This was the ‘No mas ‘ (no more) fight with Duran. Duran was a really aggressive animal rugged fighter but Sugar Ray just never let him use it…He outpointed him in skill and in the end just frustrated Duran to the point of driving him mad to quit because he was making him look so silly in missing that it was humiliating for him. Leonard messed with him psychologically as well as tactically.

Controlling range so you could hit them but they couldn’t hit you….Making TIMING more important than reach,,, Footwork to get you to the target fast or out of the line of fire…The ability to read your opponents INTENT fast and intercept first like Bruce Lee in JKD. Leonard had 2 things really working for him in the rematch. 1) The ring was HUGE--21 X 21--(that's a VERY large ring--perfect for Sugar Ray to utilize his speed and movement.) 2) Duran blew up to almost 200 lbs. after the first fight and had about 2 and 1/2 months to get down to 147, which HAD to have sapped a lot of his energy. No excuses though--Leonard stayed in top shape--Duran let himself go--that's entirely on him and his management (or lack thereof.)

He broke Duran DOWN..mentally as well as physically! Duran had gone EIGHT YEARS without a loss and had won over FIFTY FIGHTS IN A ROW until Ray beat him, so this was a historic accomplishment. I saw the fight live (on pay per view) back in 1980 and when Duran said those famous words “no mas” and quit, the crowd was in total disbelief. That (along with his first fight with Thomas Hearns) was Sugar Ray’s greatest fight. I believe that he was the greatest welterweight of all time!

@@jalenikezeue4114 Duran freaked out! Going into this fight, he had won over FIFTY FIGHTS IN A ROW.. his last loss was a close decision back in ‘72 against Estaban Dejesus (who would go on to win the WBC lightweight title). Duran knocked Dejesus out twice in rematches and moved up to the welterweight division and defeated Leanord to become champion. BUT in that REMATCH, Sugar Ray took command of the fight from the beginning and Duran, in my opinion, got scared and quit..it’s just that simple. A lot of people have tried to analyze why Duran quit for the last 40 years, but the answer is obvious. Why do most fighters quit a battle? Fear! He was getting beat and he knew (from their first contest) that Leanord was going to be even stronger in the later rounds. He wasn’t going to get tired. If this fight had continued I believe Duran was going to get knocked out somewhere in the last 5 rounds and I believe that Duran knew that as well!

Wow! I just watched this exact match only 9+ hours ago. I got lucky and found a bunch of my old boxing tapes and this was ONE of the fights. Sugar Ray Leonard definitely put on a masterclass to such a high degree, of The Sweet Science, that he made The Boxing Legend known as Roberto Duran aka "Hands of Stone" quit. Quite literally not only on the ring, but for good. This was right before he announced his retirement. But let us not forget that the legend "Manos de Piedra" stated, "he (*as in Sugar Ray Leonard) needs to move from this weight. although my body did not want to move the way I want it to move, I did not feel Sugar Ray Leonard as strong. He didnt feel like much of a threat at this weight class. He needs to move up." (*paraphrasing, but this is the just of what he said in the locker room in an interview, following this fight. I am fortunate enough to have the interview in my copy f this fight. ONE day soon, I will post it.

If I was Duran I wouldn't have fought this guy I would have said he is gonna win if I fight him. He ain't gonna hurt me but he will win because his fast movements. But I won't fight him because the kind of boxing I want in my carreer is toe to toe. Someone who I can exchange with and see who is tougher Not someone Im gonna have to chase the 12 rounds and who is gonna win by points. That would have been more honest and real. And actually Duran didn't need leonard. Leonard needed Duran

I understand. It's just that that seems to be the natural trajectory of sport. At the start, it's an expensive labor of love, once it becomes popular, it becomes lucrative primary income and grows apecialty organizations around it to support specialization. Few of today's hockey players would even survive 80's hockey or basketball. 😂 The sport evolved. Once big money happens, it acts to steer things towards bigger money. Flashier, fancier and most of all, market share. Like the old WWF. There's never really been a cult following for Greco-Roman wrestling. Handsome, talented, flashy, charismatic = money. Not to say that he SRL wasn't amazing. He had every reason to win decisions.

@dreianj srl is known basically because of Duran While Duran is known for being one of the greatest As I said before Duran didn't need Srl. Srl needed Duran

@thiagoocean8497 I don't doubt you. What I'm saying is that sports are not organic. Not at that level and dollars make strange bedfellows. Imagine how much you have to make to guarantee the purses they do.

Para esa pelea Sugar Ray Leonard se entrenó bonito, con sparings mas 🤠 livianos que le exigieron en velocidad, hizo ver como atornillado y torpe a Durán que fue puro fajador
