Over the winter Matt got the frame and body of our Model T Roadster blasted and and its finally time to get started on the project!! The first step in the process is fixing all of the sins from years of dirt track racing. Once all of the repairs have been completed it's time to start working on boxing plates to help stiffen up the very small Model T frame!!

Love this project. It takes me back to the 50's when my Dad and his partner were building their dirt track cars. It made me smile at the extra work you're putting into this car. I know why you're doin it and I agree with it completely but back then those cars were only expected to last one or two seasons at the most and the extra work wasn't deemed necessary. It wasn't uncommon to see one or two old race cars in someone's backyard for spare parts destined for the scrap yard. Crying shame. I'm so glad that you are taking the effort to preserve these pieces of history.

I look forward to all the new projects, but I have been waiting for this one since the video where you picked it. You do such a good job with recording these---just enough video to show what is being done and not endless minutes of grinding and welding time filler. Thanks for the information and the presentation in all your videos.

Have you ever thought of getting a body/frame rotisserie? Makes it easier to get bottom & sides as you can just spin it.

As a former Welding Educator I would suggest you cover your arms. TIG welding with Argon (an open window gas) has no ultraviolet resistance. I dont want to see you with huge Carcinomas on your arms, you are great craftsmen

As you can see, there were not many rules about chassis design in the area where this car was raced. It would be really neat to find a copy of those rules from the area and period that fits the car... That footwell always did look scary to me.. although I do really like the connecting rod support hangers. Most of the guys I knew in these organizations just looked at the cars that were doing well in the races and copied what they thought they saw. There wasn't a lot of science and engineering going on...lol

@@chuckb9867 I have 2 Flat 6's. 48 and 49. 48 is in my 51 F1 and the 49 will go in my 52 F3. One is a fresh rebuild and the other has all the machining done and just needs to be assembled. Great motors and very underrated IMO. Looking forward to the build.

@@ericargo9157 I understand the inline 6 has more torque than the V8 Ford from the same year medium 42 on up with the flatheads do you know of any parts that are hard to come across I want mine to look all original I don't know if it's true or not on these engines but I have seen others where distributor shaft bushings can really affect the timing has they where the shaft bounces creating false timing situation also I imagine indexing the spark plugs would help what oil grade do you recommend synthetic maybe or no way and I'm sure you should add zinc I have a 1942 Ford staff car I need to work on it big time

Why did you not put a mid or rear cross member in while the frame is square and true on the table?
@IronTrapGarage
@IronTrapGarage Жыл бұрын
Because we don’t know where the center cross member goes yet because we can’t fit the engine and trans in with the chassis on the table. Welding a cross member in won’t be enough heat to warp the frame.

1:23 Why can't you move the chassis table into your shop with your tractor? Work smarter, not harder.
@IronTrapGarage
@IronTrapGarage Жыл бұрын
While you’re moving the tractor and getting it rigged in we can just push it in. Just because you have a tractor doesn’t mean you need to use it on every little job. But hey what do I know we don’t work smart.
