Good theory about rematches but an outlier that definitely goes against this is the jermain taylor-bernard hopkins fights

more fantasy match ups: roy jones jr vs ward 175, jose torres vs michael spinks 175, edwin rosario vs esteban de jesus 135, wilfred benitez vs chavez sr 140, and tito trinidad vs jose napoles at 147

@ arnold wayne Prime Jones Jr big over Ward near shutout, Spinks possibly by stoppage, slight edge to Rosario, Chavez Sr - Benitez couldn't evade body shots, toss up easpecially if the fight went past the 8th round of a 15 round fight for Trinidad and Napoles.

Trying to be objective, I thought the first six rounds were 3-3 or 4-2 for Kov at best. He was doing a good job with the jab but Ward was getting more of what he wanted, even in the rounds he lost. A stoppage of some kind, controversial or not, was probably inevitable that night. Kov's mind didn't seem right going into the fight and Ward had a chip on his shoulder.

Interesting thoughts on rematches. I almost always go with the boxer who is more of a counter puncher in a rematch if the first one is close. The counter puncher does'nt have to figure out the other guy, doesnt have to give up any early rounds to crack his opponents code, he understands his patterns. Second fight is more like round 13, 14, 15, 16..... Hoping stieverne puts up a fight this weekend, Wilder still so long, and even though hes pretty limited, he can land that big right hand from so far out. Wish Ortiz passed his drug test, that was a far more interesting fight.

@ Mike Weaver Question what was your old channel name? The other old saying is "If one fighter KO's the other, he'll score a KO faster in the rematch" Case in Point Jeff Chandler vs. Julian Solis of course many break that theory as well like Carlos DeLeon getting KO'd by ST Gordon then absolutely dominating and knocking him down in the rematch.

Hey stork, My old channel name was abovebeneath with the same avitor I have now..I agree with you o if one fighter knocks out the other, in the rematch it usually comes easier. Marciano vs walcott 2. Foreman handled Frazier easier the second time as well. Ill alway remember you granting my wish of listing the top 5 greatest boxing announcers years ago. cool channel man Peace..

Agree with the analysis on Kovalev vs Ward had Kovalvev winning the first and had the second one close up until the eighth when Ward landed one good punch and then decided to do his best Golota impersonation. Its a shame for Kovalev that his legacy is going to be losing the two biggest fights of his career.

I stopped your video at 4:00 to provide feedback on what I head at that point. I won't try and change your prospective on how the second fight ended, but I will point that the referee was there in the ring to make that call for a low punch or punches. I'm going to assume that you watched the fight like most of us in front of a television? It's hard to say for certain if in fact the punches were low? Regarding fighters leaving the sport with their faculties in tact is a good thing, after all boxing is a brutal in the ring and outside the ring when dealing with corruption and shady promoters. I believe the first pay-per view was Jun 27, 1988 Mike Tyson vs. Michael Spinks?

@artebo You assumed correct I watched the fight in front of a TV. The referee I don't believe was on the correct side of the action to see where the punches were landing. At least 2 of the punches were in the cup area 2 others were between the belt line and area below. The 1st PPV the cable network we had back then were fights in 1990. I saw the Tyson-Spinks fight on closed circuit at a bar it wasn't offered on PPV on my cable provider back then.

3 or 4 low blows in a row? I didn’t see that many in a row. The last one was low but he was hurt to the body and head

It was typical Ward, I definitively saw at least 2 that were low and 2 that were boarderline.

yes I did see a few low blows as well my point is there wasn't 3 or 4 low blows to close the fight. the last yes but Kov was looking for a way out based of his body language. he didn't hold that area he barely complained. after the ref called it off he went down to catch his breath from the body shot. got up halfway still hurting to the body. then starting to complain it was a bad stoppage. he also turned his back several times in the last few rounds. the body shots and right hand to the head caused more damage then those low blows

I saw a low blow after several good shots. the body shots & the right hand to the head were the main reason Kov was hurt and looking vunerable on the ropes

The Rope A Dope Radio Podcast all three were low and below the naval pretty damn clear And I know you know more about boxing than thinking that one good shot ends a fight Just for once be honest and admit it was bs Would ward have won? Probably But he didn't win fairly AGAIN Just like against kessler Or do you Condone blatant headbutting as well Ward is one of the dirtiest fighters I've ever seen he breaks every single rule from holding elbowing forearming headbutting I wanted a clear victory We didn't get one Stop trying to justify it its just laughable Turning boxing into a complete joke of a sport Although its doing that on its own
