Great to have you back Islander, I've loathed the fact that even rounds seem to have been consigned to the dustbin of history. Oh and nice little shoutout to NY Islanders are they still based out of Brooklyn now ?

@MrBrendanRoy THANKS! I'm still loathing the fact that world title fights are not 15 rounds-it would weed out a lot of wannabes who wouldn't be champion. The Isles who lost to the Oilers in OT are still playing out of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn I thought they are supposed to move back the Nassau after the the re-boot of the Colosseum.

What a good observation there, Storkjmc! I've always thought that the "never score 10-10 rds" were bogus. Maybe 13 round fights would be part of a possible solution?

@Erik Burman thank you and I will say if one looks back to 12 round championship fights that took place in the years closely following 1982 you will see strange scores of 117-114 (6 rounds to 3 with 3 even) and 118-116 (4 rounds to 2 with 6 even) in some remote cases where judges were still scoring even rounds. To me the championship rounds used to be 11-15 now they're 11 and 12 which is laughable. They had it right prior to January 1983.

Came to post cause just now Harold Ledderman said while giving his scoring analysis "you gotta pick a winner, you just gotta!" He's part of the freakin problem ..

Hey Sal I was thinking the same exact thing and I wonder why Kellerman didn't ask Harold, how does a guy receive 10 points if he hit the deck? Proper score for that round was 9-8 in favor of Valera or 9-9 if you think the round was even.

Joshua-Wilder is a dangerous fight for both guys. I think Joshua's better technique will give him the edge in the early rounds but if he can't get his apparent stamina issues under control, Wilder could roll down the stretch. My take on the early stoppages is that it's more that referee's are getting increasingly cautious. It's not just guys with perfect knockout records this is happening with. I'm seeing it everywhere. Great point about the judging. I've often wondered if certain judges, meaning the one's who aren't paid off, settle into a weird psychosis about what they're seeing and how to interpret it.

I think the judges don't have to be bribed. They know that star fighters like Alvarez will keep bringing in big cash if they keep winning, which means more cash for the judges if they get assigned those fights. I think almost everyone involved in Alvarez vs. GGG wanted a rematch for that reason. Golden Boy Promotions definitely wanted one.
@somersetfan1
@somersetfan1 6 жыл бұрын
Classic example of that was Canelo - GGG, I though only a handful of those rounds were easy to score

Swinging wildly against Joshua wouldn't be a good idea. I hope they get the fight made.

If Wilder gets his distance right and pops that sharp jab and throws everything straight, he's gonna be a tough opponent for AJ. If he throws those wild, wide shots Joshua has a big advantage.

@briggm I have only seen Wilder give up his height and reach when he gets a guy in trouble. Hell, my punching technique is better than his after the first knock down, he was winging shots way too wide! If he fights AJ like he did Stiverne before and up to the 1st knock down its going to be a long night for Joshua.

Me and my brother always score rounds a draw ourselves. Lots of 4-3 with 5 draw type scorecards. It gives a much clearer indication of who actually won. I think the judges should ask themselves "who lost that round?" rather than who won and if there wasn't a clear loser than its 10-10. About only 50% of rounds are actually clear when 2 guys are evenly matched.
@boxinginfo

@LukePettit Absolutely agree with all of what you said. I'll take it a step further, Max Kellerman always says if a round is close ask yourself which fighter would you rather be in that round" Personally I think that that assertion is flawed and looking at the round to see who came out on the short end is better than looking for who accumulated more. Did Sugar Ray Leonard really win complete rounds vs Marvin Hagler? OR was it the last 10 seconds of every round? I believe it was the latter.

Who would you have picked In 1983 had it happened Tony Ayala vs Davey Moore, Also Rocky Lockridge va Diego Corrales and Jose Luis castillo vs Ray Mancini
@boxinginfo
@boxinginfo 6 жыл бұрын
@ 162773 In 1983 I would have picked Ayala, knowing what I know now I think Moore would have probably won - Moore was under rated and his career was ruined by fighting Duran much like Vargas fighting Trinidad. Corrales over Lockridge probably by KO. Mancini over Castillo barely - he would smother Castillo who had no significant size advantages over Mancini like Arguello and Bramble did.

Do you think Wilder can beat Joshua? Duhaupas took Wilder to 11 rounds. Anthony is no Duhaupas or Stevern if you know what I mean😊

@ega0117 YES I do think Wilder can beat Joshua. I ALSO think Joshua can beat Wilder. In regards to your comment about Duhaupas I will tell you that the 41 year old Wlad and Takam are NO Wilder either.

Wilder did what he was supposed to do to A old underprepared opponent he is very big strong and athletic but still seems to be very raw In my opinion I don’t know they’re just seems to be something missing with Wilder in my opinion I still think Joshua wins the fight whenever they do fight You have been saying that about the scoring for years rounds Being scored even meaning there is some evidence to that I believe I think it’s mostly though the promoters and managers having the judges in their pockets some of them as far as your point about HBO and Max Kellerman he is a company man for HBO and if HBO tells him to push A certain fighter Sometimes he says things I don’t think he necessarily believes that’s my personal opinion

@boxingguru100 Some of their comments are asinine regardless if they're trying to push a guy with 12 pro fights. Think about this, how much money did they spend to play 2nd fiddle to SKY Sports just to get Jim Lampley a facial in Monte Carlo? The whole set up for that fight was unrealistic from the tiny venue to paying for at least 3 people to fly over there to make believe they're James Bond.

boxinginfo some of their comments are ridiculous I agree some fans don’t think for themselves they are carting to those fans you and I do research however everyone doesn’t do that it’s not right what they do it is what it is though I just do my own research to develop my own opinions on different topics

@boxingguru100 I agree 100% what we do is called "critical thinking" What gets me upset is somebody new to boxing like me back when I was 11 years old or my 12 year old daughter will watch this and think this guy who scored a 1 punch 1 round KO must be the best at 175 because the broadcaster said so and look what just happened. There is not much depth of thinking to those who come across boxing by chance or who are new to it. BUT I do agree with everything you're saying!

boxinginfo It is very important to do your own research and some people don’t understand that did you hear about Dana White possibly getting into boxing? What is your opinion on that
@boxinginfo
@boxinginfo 6 жыл бұрын
@boxingguru100 I have not heard about Dana White trying to get into boxing. He just came off one of his best UFC cards where 3 titles changed hands on the same venue. Personally I believe he's better off doing what he's doing. The UFC is operating the way boxing did back prior to the 1960's 8 men's weight divisions 1 undisputed champion per division, title fights which are significantly longer than the other fights. I would think in time the UFC portion of MMA is going to surpass boxing. There are some controversies in UFC but they are minuscule compared to what we deal with in boxing. Personally I think boxing is way too big, broad, and diluted for him to get his arms around.
