His gas tank was quite imressive in the Vargas and Mean Machine fights. He also has a background in cross country running if I remember correctly. As long as he doesn't burn himself out waiting for the Spence-Crawford drama and the PBC-Golden Boy politics doesn't get in the way then Vergil vs Boots should be a FOTY contender.

Virgil ortiz jr has alot of skill to go with it, he's like a mix of Spence and Canelo but better Feet, they are more defensively responsible though. But this is a top talent, his Power Size Speed to go with the skill makes him alot better than people realize.

Good breakdown ! Ppl don’t give credit to specifically Mexican American fighters like Vergil ortiz, David Benavidez, ray muratalla, Diego Pacheco, Jesse Rodriguez, Sebastian fundora, Arnold Barboza jr, Emiliano/Amado/Fernando jr Vargas and more we have our own styles just how ppl view African born and African American fighters just an example
@Danielkozina2 жыл бұрын
Ortiz uses a pressure style mixed with a boxer puncher style. He utilises power jab and traditional pressure fighting ability like walking down and cutting off the ring of your opponents, he fights well at all ranges and when he has his opponents on the ropes at times uses different angles to find new openings, he uses a side to side rythem where he slips to each side as he's coming forward and timss his shots when stepping in, his combined speed and power with his combinations makes him very dangers and a great finisher.

Big fan of Vergil Ortiz Jr and I agree he has everything needed to become a pound for pound champion. Loved your breakdown of his skillset and I think you called it well. Also, I like the fact that you ended with a preview of Boots Ennis another up and coming fighter with amazing ability which I will have to check out. At this point I am more excited about the prospect of Ennis and Ortiz Jr fighting than Spence & Crawford.

Vergil Ortiz Jr has what it takes to fight the bests in his division. He has a knockout rate of 100% now but we will have to wait to see if he can maintain it fighting Crawford or Spence Jr. I really see these fights to happen with even a better version of Ortiz. If he beats the bests, he will be an automatic contender to be one of the p4p in boxing.

Reminds me of Thurman made it to the top. Very similar path. Can he reach the same heights or can he even surpass Thurman? Because let´s face it, Thurman hit the ceiling. In 2017, after beating Danny, Thurman stood at the top, ready to leap into greatness. Instead he fell into inactivity.
@BoxingLife2 жыл бұрын
Hopefully can stay injury clear and continues getting some big step up fights
@utkarsh27462 жыл бұрын
Thurman and Danny were always meant to be fodder for PBC's actual golden boy Spence. PBC keeps guys like Leo Santa Cruz around just to feed them to their actual money makers.
@firellparker74632 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, thurman wasn't just injury it was mentality, virgil is always looking to improve and get better, Virgil is more dangerous than he is too. I'd love to see Virgil fight Thurman, it would be the warm up fight needed for Bud, but he's good enough to compete now.
@SuperCrazyEstonian2 жыл бұрын
@@utkarsh2746 I call BS on LSC. He was clearly one of Haymon´s favorites. Just look how they cuddled him on numerous Mayweather undercards. After which they had him fight Mares and Frampton, neither of whom were "money makers" for PBC. Tank was the first big name and truly dangerous fighter LSC had fought in over 3 years. And Thurman actually drew big numbers. Sure, the end goal was Spence, but before that it was necessary to prop up PBC as it had just launched. Thurman vs Guerrero, Danny and Porter were big fights that PBC invested heavily into. Heck, Thurman vs Collazo kicked off PBC on ESPN and the Guerrero fight kicked off PBC on NBC. Thurman was undoubtedly their biggest asset at the time.

I do agree that guy's got serious power and skill. I almost feel like he can literally kill some of those boxers with sheer power, do feel sorry for anyone going up against him, makes me suggest to his opponents to actually cheat, take steroids and put weights on their gloves just so they can compete against this absolute monster.😂

Vergil Ortiz is a very good fighter but has flaws , I believe Ortiz beats everyone at 147 and 154 outside of Jermell Charlo, Errol Spence, Crawford and Ennis, Castano and Fondura would be 50 50 fights.

Great breakdown like always Jamie i think it’s a 50/50 in a firefight with benn but i don’t think Ortiz beats boots bud or spence he’s a good fighter don’t think he gets the respect he deserves due to hype around boots but I think he beats every other welterweight
@BoxingLife2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Billy! Yeah I think the fight with Benn would be great fight. Right now, Spence and Crawford beat him, but the longer wait, the better chance Ortiz had imo. Hopefully the boots fight can happen too one dayx
@MrSirFluffy2 жыл бұрын
Idk, Boots is good but I'd hardly say that he beats Ortiz. I'm not so confident Boots could manage that amount of pressure from an intelligent boxer. People make the mistake of thinking Vergil is just another bum rusher or power puncher. Ortiz is more like a bullet chess player. He takes an intelligent approach and sets the pace to something barely any fighter has ever confronted. Almost like Porter, but Porter smothers his own punches and likes to get tied up. Vergil keeps the space open and keeps the mental pressure going, exhausting people mentally and physically. It doesn't help that he tears down the body AS the opponent is being exhausted.

@@MrSirFluffy 1st balanced argument I've seen in a while, whilst I believe boots has the upper hand, he's not a backfoot fighter, and he's sloppy on the inside, and just ike vwrgil I've seen him rocked, he has great feet though and a very good lead hand along eith the power and slickness, he just needs to use his movement and speed.
