One of Roy's best performances given the circumstances in my opinion. A WBA champion at light heavy who knew him very well, had a great chin, was a south paw, was fighting in front of his home crowd and Roy shut him out whilst coming off the floor from a good knock down. Ballsy performance by Roy and Lou to be fair.

i love watchin fights where roy knocks ppl out, but i like fights that go the full 10 or 12 rounds too. its great watchin roy dominate, just out boxin his oppopnent. its always great when a guy puts a up a good fight tho, much respect to lou for the knockdown too

I think him and Del Valle had a history. I think Del Valle was actually a sparring partner for Roy some years prior to this fight and he was the only one that could sometimes get the best of Roy when they would spar and Roy could never knock him out. And I think Del Valle never hesitated to let him know about it.

That wasn't a damn 'wet spot'. Roy's reaction to it tells everything. He got caught with a good shot. He audibly blurts out "fuck" like...I got caught. Didn't really hurt him, but stunned him enough to put him down. His insane conditioning was evident at this time. But Del Valle absolutely zapped him with that left hand.

It was a matter of time before that ``lucky shoot``would happen :) and let me tell you my friend, a lot of time has passed and too many champions have fallen with almost no defeats where Roy defeated them for the first time, a true champion.

Lou got Roy with a good shot that knocked him down. Roy got backup and recovered well. I think Roy had a decent chin. His lack of punch resistance later in his career was a result of coming down from HW and burning off all that muscle.

@Weghweh Hwewehwhe its simple. Roy jones jr went up to 199 from 175 of pure muscle in the same year he lost 24 pounds of muscle to fight tarver. That ruined his body. You have to do that type of shit slow or you'll damage yourself he 34 years old and never recovered. Now i have to fight white boys from across the pond who think joe Calzaghe would have beat roy in his prime

It doesn't prove he had a good chin, if anything it was the opposite. If Jones had the courage and nerve to fight Benn, Jackson or Mc Clellan, early to mid 90s at MW, and anyone of these Guys lands as easily as Del Valle, who was good but not great, it may well have been lights out for Jones for good.

@@DR05jr HI Dwain, with respect I get you to a Point, he beat B Hop and Toney, fair enough but the B Hop fight was in 93, he was an inexperienced and Non Top Rank fighter then. His defeat of Toney in 94, is The Best win of his Career, by miles, but Toney was way out of condition and in Hospital on a drip the day before, and despite many pleas from him for a return, over many years, Jones didn't want to know. Please don't give me the, well he beat him so well he didn't have to, routine, Toney was the IBF SMW Champion, he should have shown Honor and returned the Guy. His Career from late 94 onwards, the Toney fight, is all about fighting Mandatories, Class B and C Guys and others like Mc Callum, whose best days were gone. Jones was toying with the idea of fighting Buster Douglas in 98 just before this fight with Del Valle , for a Meaningless, Mickey Mouse HW Title but changed his mind on the advice of his Father, who said he could be killed, just as well he didn't cos if Douglas caught him, his Premonition may well have come true, take care.

All wet spots no knock down. Towels the round before and it's what they're talking about. Same thing happened in the Reggie Johnson vs Roy Jones Jr fight a few fights after except it happened to Reggie Johnson in the 12th round go look and they say it was a slip so fast but when Roy slipped on that water they can't wait to hate on a well known good person. Like I say all slip no knock down.

Roy Jones needed to use his jab to make the fight easier. Watched the vs Vinny Pazienza(spelling) fight its light and day with the way Roy was throwing a sharp quick succession of jabs compared to most of his other fights where he relies on this herky jerky, jump in, throw hooks or lead rights. His refusal to use his jab resulted to his boxing decline.

I think Roy would've won, but I actually believe Dariusz Michalczewski could've dropped Jones too. That was his signature type punch, and Michalczewski was way more proven than Lou Del Valle as a pro and as amateur. Truth is neither needed that fight. Dariusz was selling out arenas and stadiums against b level dudes, and Roy was getting guaranteed money from HBO despite not being a great ppv draw nor selling as many tickets as Dariusz did.

Very disappointed with Roy in this fight. I feel he’s the 2nd best fighter of the past 30 years, post 80’s, only after Floyd. But this guy is someone who wasn’t very good, at the elite level. He should have knocked this guy out in the first half of the fight. Fights like this makes me want to put Pacquiao and Ward ahead of him. They would have put this bum out early. Maybe Roy is 4th since the 80’s

You also have to remember that your number one, Floyd, didn't have a strong offense during the period that many consider him to be great in. If Floyd was bigger, it would be doubtful he KOs this guy too. That isn't necessarily a knock on Floyd btw.
