That is the fun part for some of us. I aren't a box-warrior. However I am a retired pyrotechnician and shotfirer. I once owned a company which was famous for presenting fantastic fireworks displays. The company grew out of my passion for and hobby of making my own fireworks,. Which I came to with a pyromaniacs enthusiasm for fire all my Aries life and learned mostly from very old books. This translated to a love of traditional ground effects rarely seen today. Line rockets, pigeons as well as massive and complex wheels and "machines" like large horiontal wheels with arrays of roman candles along the cross arms and other smaller wheels mounted on it and each other. Lance set-pieces. My best was a 6 meter tall, oriental dragon with 6 different colours done for a town in Western Australia with a Japanese themed festival connected with their pearling history. I made every one of the thousands of lances, by hand and this alone took weeks. It helps that there are techniques like shaker boxes etc which meant I could make 50 or 100 at a time. I also made the full range of compositions. Fountains, driving wheels, candles. Lances, mines and aerial shells. Not for everything because many of those things can be bought and even Chinese stuff is pretty good most of the time. To do the really good stuff though nothing beats what a good pyro chemist can do themselves. Or know someone. So here's the thing. I'd spend weeks sometimes, and some of my crew also often did too, preparing a fireworks show. We could spend the whole day setting up a medium sized show on location even with many devices and special tools and apparatus. Worst is the bureacracy. Police, fire, air traffic, harbor control, local towns and citiy admins. After all that, typically it would all go up in fire and smoke over ten minutes to half an hour at most. The aftermath, cleaning up and restoring the environment to an approximation of what it was before, could take half a day as well even with extra help from family and friends. To do these things was only possible because we loved it all, or some of it enough to compensate. Not only love for the last fifteen minutes of adrenaline pumping sensory overload which can infect a huge crowd or even a city with the same buzz. Sure that is a buzz. Aawesome as the finale show is, setting it all up with your own hands from scratch was also a part of the thrill and enjoyment. It is time spent detailing and planning things. It is full of anticipation and in ones mind the whole final picture is being prepared. You simply cannot have one without the other. As for any suggestion some could indulge their creative talents making all this stuff and others who want to set it all on fire for the final effect should complete the circle...not on your life. Who else but we who have painstakingly and patiently prepared the show over weeks of our lives, lived it and breathed it? Just like the little red hen who found the wheat, she tilled the soil and planted it, watered and weeded it then harvested and ground it to flour. She baked the bread and nobody but she is entitled to eat the bread.
