This is such a powerful scene, even more so when you realize that its a true story.

This is true of so many parents who have a child who is gay/transgender or has a disability. They do only think about how it affects them and how they can "fix" their child because "different" is bad in their eyes and the eyes of the world.

The rebellious child defies the father. The son epitomizes millennials. "I'm not changing," is adolescent rebellion. But to add, "There's no changing me," adds delusional defiance. That is a millennial. The millennial says, I'm right, everyone must cater to me or you are evil and part of the problem. The movie makes the son the hero, the father the antagonist who is archaic and obtuse. I'm pretty sure this movie has already become must viewing, a cult classic, in some circles. It's troubling that Russell Crowe wanted to be part of this. But then, this is Hollywood. So anyway, bye Russell. And I liked you so much from Virtuosity, LA Confidential, and 3:10 to Yuma. I don't like this soap box you got on to.

What utter rubbish, so because the son wasn't willing to change the fact that he's gay which is a natural thing by the way makes him a delusional millennial. You need to understand being gay is natural and occurs in all species of animals and has nothing to do with god who by the way is a fictional character in a book written by man.

That's because you're lumping being gay into "choosing to do bad things". This is why you completely misunderstand the subject matter and do not know what you're talking about. Being gay is not a choice, in fact it's more likely that it's the fault of the parents' DNA than anything else. Did you ever choose which gender gives you boners? I didn't think so. Ever since I hit puberty I've only ever gotten erections over other men. Not attracted to women at all. Completely normal (and actually much better - I had phenomenal parents who provided me with everything I could ever want/need) childhood with no psychological issues. Doing drugs= choice. Making bad decisions= choice. Being gay = NOT A CHOICE AT ALL.
