Love, love, love this song. Helen Terry blew it out of the water! Huge CC fan in the 80's. I miss them! Thanks for sharing.

I have love this song since I was young and I used to rent it from my library. I used to cry when Helen sang with the last chorus where she rises her voice and wails. Very touching. Thank you for posting this beautiful live version! Much love!

unplugged, real pop music,,, the way it should be.... every culture club had all the essentials,, boy's voice, helen's, keyboards, base, lead guitar, and drums.. Culture Club is timeless! sorry to hear george became a mean man,, for what he did and is in jail now... but people can heal,, and hopefully george will have a comback someday and bring his brilliant song writing and performing creativity back to us ...

This particular song would have without question broken the black demographic markets in two. I remember driving through Downtown Detroit at the time when I came to realized that one of my white girlfriends had left a Culture Club tape behind; I was about to through it out of the window when something told me to insert it, and bypass all the mainstream bubble-gum Culture Club crap that was dominating most white radio stations nationwide. I remember that day as if it were yesterday-- although it happened several decades ago. I clicked through all the bubble-gum shit until I hit the B-Side, and heard what I thought was Smokey Robinson on a Culture Club album; but it wasn’t Smokey-- it was Boy George himself….WOW, I Knew then that there was a lot more to Boy George than Boy George from Culture Club. Later that night I stopped over by WGPR Radio station/studios a few minutes before 12:00 midnight when The Electrifying MOJO (Charles Johnson) would take over the airwaves of Detroit, and asked him if he had heard 'Black Money' by Culture Club to which he responded by saying “fuck no, I don’t listen to that over the pound mainstream bullshit.” Now, anyone who knew MOJO also would know that right before he began his midnight broadcasts he would like to smoke some good weed and enjoy a sip or two of Hennessy. Knowing this I brought both of the two with me as a possible bribe if needed. As I presented him with the weed and the Hennessy, as a gesture of his consideration, and my gratitude of appreciation he reluctantly agreed to listen to the Black Money, but only over his headphones. To my shock he dismay he abruptly stopped the song halfway through, and said “nigga, why haven’t you turned me on to this shit before tonight? I cautiously responded by stating “because just by the stroke of pure luck one of my female friends left the cassette in my car, and I just happened to play the B-Side out of curiosity." MOJO looked at me with what were quickly becoming bloodshot eyes and said “fuck it, I don’t care what the station manger or station owners have to says; I’m playing this shit here all night long." MOJO was a contracted DJ whose contract clause allowed him to play whatever he wanted, and that night-- back, to back, to back-- he played solely Black Money for five to six hours without pause. The very next day Black Money By Culture Club was number one on all Detroit, and Chicago urban stations. Boy George was really a Soul Singer hidden inside a pop-star and unfortunately marketed to be only that. Records labels often get it wrong, and it becomes a tragedy for not only us the listening audience, but also a tragedy for the artists who suffer alone having being forced to be what they are not. And, RIP George Michael-- you too were a Soul Singer from across the pound who just happened to be white, and under valued merely for being of your particular racial sort.

AWESOME!!! I have not seen this clip before. Thanks for sharing. The vocal combination of Boy George and Helen Terry is among the most soulful ever. Niether George or Helen, in my opinion, were ever given the credit they deserved as premier vocalists. BTW - does anyone know what became of Helen Terry? Did she ever do any solo work??
