I just happen to have one of these hatchets that needs a new scale. That stopped me in my tracks. I had no idea how in the h#$% I was going to make another one. So, after 2 years in the waiting box I have a January project. Thanks TS!

I had a Bridgeport BSA hatchet very similar to this when I was in scouting. Very nicely done. It turned out fantastic.

@@toolscouter Thanks. My channel has some stuff like refurbishing axes but no where as good of a job as you do with your tools. Mostly mine is fishing, camping, archery, blackpowder and such. 357 Magdad uses oxalic acid to help clean out those deep grease stains

@@toolscouter it's a thing commonly used by furniture restorers to remove stains from wood. Comes as a white powder and you mix it with water and paint it on. Leave it to dry but remember to wash the crystals off in water afterwords - it's not something you want to breath in. Very nice axe and very nice clean up. Really appreciate the fact that you didn't slather the handle in epoxy 😊

I did put Linseed oil on my handles. What was neat was when I polished the rivets on the cloth wheel it burnished the wood as well. I like how it turned out thanks for watching.

Fantastic! I have one of these my Grandfather gave me. It came with plexiglass scales and had a paper picture of a trout (I think) showing through the scales. However, the scales were cracked and broken and would cut the hand badly, so he had it wrapped up with all kinds of foam and tape when he gave it to me. I tried to make some scales out of local Mesquite but perhaps the grain was a poor choice because the brittle wood broke on one side and I wound up just taking them back off and wrapping it with paracord. It's still uncomfortable to use as it sits. If it's any help, the plexiglass scales did not have the dado. They were just made a slightly smaller width to fit inside the forged handle. I still have the original rivets stored away. Er, how much would you charge me to re-scale it? It's something special to me and even though I don't use it often, due to the shock to my hand, I'd like to be able to pack it around on my outings again. I'm not worried about paint or anything - just want it to be fully functional again. Stellar work, good sir!👏👏👏
