But simply after the boy's family was killed he was taken by soldiers to them he told about what happened to his family so boy guided Serbian soldiers to his house where they took revenge on Austrian soldiers that killed his family and after that frankly he had nowhere to go, so the soldiers cared for him and he stayed in that unit until the end of war

+Fawn Dunkin Yes, they did. Actually, the youngest soldier in the WWI was Serbian boy Momčilo Gavrić, who was only eight years old when he joined the Serbian army. In 1914, Austro-Hungarian soldiers maimed and hanged his father, mother, grandmother, his three sisters, and four of his brothers. Their house was also set on fire. He joined the army in order to survive, not because of adventures, such as volunteers in this video. Sebian major accepted Gavrić into his unit after hearing about what had happened, and assigned a soldier in the unit to be his caretaker. Soon after, he was promoted to the rank of corporal, and given a military uniform. He also participated in the breakthrough of the Thessaloniki front, after which he was promoted to the rank of Lance Sergeant by Serbian Field Marshal Živojin Mišić, and the order was read out to the whole division. He was wounded during the war, and had received the Albanian Commemorative Medal.

My great granddaddy did this in the United States during WWI. Had his brother pretend to be his dad because his parents wouldnt sign off but he was 17 so it was actually believable. Sending a 13 year old to the trenches for an extra couple shillings is just evil.

Things like this show that blind patriotism can often overcome basic morals as the idea of going off to war had become so romanticized and encouraged by the Government that people were willing to let underage boys in to war for a bit more money, parents were convinced that having their boy go off to war at such a young age because it was for the country. Soldiers would be more seen as numbers then people, which probably led to many almost suicidal attacks to gain a few meters of ground. World War One is so notorious for being such a terrible war likely because people didn’t seem to care for anyone else, because the ends must justify the means.
@Spongebrain976 жыл бұрын

It was the first mechanised war, and the horrors of trench warfare the American Civil War would be completely unknown to the British working class. To say that they were "arrogant" is pretty offensive. Naive would be a far more accurate description.
