Malaysian couples usually keep it secret, because we date to marry. If we don't plan to marry, OR we're unsure about the relationship, we naturally don't want our family to know about them. That's why we have the term "merisik" which refers to when the man brings his family to the girl's home to officially get to know each other, and if both families like each other, they'll proceed to an engagement. Sometimes even engagements remain within close relatives only, so if anything happen and the engagement doesn't happen, we can avoid awkwardness or misunderstanding. Let's say if A and B were engaged, and C knew about it. But A and B broke up, and A gets married to D while maintaining friendship with B. There would be a lot of rooms for misunderstanding, and Malaysians really care about this.

i dont think most malaysian couples actually date to marry ? i mean , maybe they have it in their mind I guess , tapi if you think about it , every couples date to marry . date to find the right person to marry . as a Muslim , even dating is not allowed in Islam . it's still haram . we have a term called "taaruf" where basically you get to know each other in the halal way . why ? because there won't only be the two of you there . there'll be one or two of both of your close friends . i do get the merisik part Alhamdulillah , but not your first point unfortunately . because why would you say you keep it a secret because you date to marry ? but on the next sentence , you said " if we don't plan to marry or we're unsure of the relationship , we naturally don't want our family to know " wallahua'lam

Rather than saying malaysian, it is more like muslim malay. Most people don't know, dating before marriage is not allowed in Islam. But some muslim does that, as we know not all people follow their religion teaching properly. Even if a lot of muslim dating, it doesn't means our religion allow it. Actually, it is a sin in islam. I hope more muslim realize this. That is why, malay couple tends to hide their relationship. Showing off ur sin is not a nice thing. It is not hypocrite, in islam eventhough u are a sinner u are not allowed to tell people u are a sinner. Because people will judge u, and islam wants to protect u from those unfair judgement. Eventhough dating is prohibited. We have other ways to get to know our partner before marriage. I am not gonna explain that part but u can do ur own research on how muslim marriage works. Some people may think bad about islam on this, but as a believers i don't think not allowed to date makes my life hard or anything. For me, dating gives more harm then benefit. And how the relationship not gonna surely end with marriage, that makes more anxious. And for girls, imagine giving ur body and heart to him only to end up getting heart broken and left. For muslim, have faith in ur religion. We respect others culture but it doesn't means we can follow what is clearly not allowed by islam. And for non muslim, i hope u guys can respect islam too. Don't say bad things about our teaching, if u want to know why something is prohibited then learn. Don't simply judge. May everyone respect each others. Love from malaysia.

I wouldn't say that parents being conservative... They just concerned... Though the kids would feel annoying... It's fine to have a relationship as long as you being minimal in action and behaviour... Out of respect, manner and norms in muslims community or country.

i do think it's fine for non-muslim to have a relationship . tapi for Muslims , can we still have relationship with men in that particular way ?
@sistersroomco27903 жыл бұрын
In Islam of course it's not something to be allowed and it's not the halal way and even I wouldn't recommend you to approach that kind of relationship to avoid something inappropriate from happening... But, it's your own risks if you did jump into that kind of relationship... Since uncertainty and unstable love life kills you silently... Islam isn't just a religion but it's a teaching that guides you to reach a life of never-ending happiness and peace. It's up to you to be either a devoted Muslim or not.

"Boyfriend kau tak marah ke? " OMG, this is VERY LEGIT approach when someone want to approach us! 🤣🤣, seriously this is such a clever way even i was in that situation too 😂... About different religion when marriage, i found a lot of scenarios happen in real life, when you just in love with someone but not his/her religion... I'm sorry to say, it is not really easy for someone who need to change for the whole life for religion, but some just do it because of his/her partner not for God.. she's right, I feel bad for them, if they emerged in divorce, he/she who converted, may not be loyal in religion.. Lastly, I agree with her when other non-muslim couples will never do some kissing or lovely hug in front of public, mostly only holding their hand when going around as it's become a culture, at the same, it's provide a manner on relationship too

But seriously, the reasons is totally different. What they are talking is from theirs perspectives and not The Representative of Most Malaysian. Because most of Malaysian is a Muslim, and we are not supposed to be too close with opposite gender. (Including dating before you are "tunang"( i forgot the English term) ) unless you married. But of course, everyone has different perspective. Just a reminder.

idk if it's fair to say malaysian parents don't really approve of international or mix marriage. most malaysians are of mix parentage anyways. inter-racial marriage has been part of our culture for hundreds of years. ask your parents, they must've some kind of mix in them too. some parents may be stricter when it comes to issues like faith or culture or keeping the bloodline etc, but i think parents are becoming more and more open to their kids marrying people from other countries.

Basically in Malaysia as in every society, you just have the religious and the not religious. While generally PDA is frowned upon in public, it does not mean it doesn't happen. With the non-Muslims, most do date freely. As Asians, we all marry not individuals but families and that's why once you're sure about him or her, you bring them home because everybody has to get along. It's just understood. If not, you can expect a lot of disharmony. These girls are talking about really nice boys. In my time, I've had plenty of experiences where guys aren't shy about expressing their admiration whether they know you or not.
