It's back to the waters of the Wild Imaginary West this week with a sea monster fishing vessel being attacked by a giant lobster from the depths.

Top notch. You should definitely tap into the “van meter visitor”, it’s an pterosaur like creature that was spotted in Iowa 1903 in the mid west. the monster has a great wings and a horn that glows a blinding light and was said to fly around and would reside in the mines. Reports say it loves to perch on top of roof tops, I think it would fit perfectly into your Wild West aesthetic.

Absolutely love this one - particularly how you have the two worlds, that of the above-water boat, and beneath-water horror of the monster. I've talked to resin manufacturers when doing large pours. They recommended using thicker acrylic sheets and staggered pours to avoid cracking and other incidents, or using lower temperature-curing resin (which takes ages to set and harden). It takes much longer, but the results are usually worth it.

I can't imagine the frustration at coming back to find resin disasters like that. As far as the scale goes, a lot of the older model kits (this one originates in the 1950s) the scale was often quite loose and sometimes based on what would fit in the box! That probably explains the giants that come with this model.

I have seen a few videos on KZbin where they are putting their deep resin pours into an ice chest (Yes, with ice, which of course can't come into contact with the resin as you well know). I've also seen an old refrigerator used for that. The diorama came out beautiful. Excellent work and excellent ingenuity all at the 11th hour!

I actually really like how the resin came out in the end - I think the various flaws give it an imperfect character that fits in really well with the subject matter, like film grain or all the scratches on an old movie reel. As for the crack…clearly, the lobster has some Mantis Shrimp genes in it from a wayward evolutionary dalliance, and that’s a shockwave from its supersonic clawpunch. Great work!

Now that is a twisted idea, now you have to come up with them in another build soon, I have to see some Chupacabra Mermaids, I really have to see them. Crack or not, even with the resin mishaps it still came out awesome. You are totally a pro at this stuff because you fixed 99.99% of the mishaps without making them look like you had to fix them. Your dioramas always have a weird, creepy sense of realism that I absolutely love! The lobster-boat size ratio is realistic, and the boat's an appropriate vessel for deep-sea fishing. You make it easy to believe that these lurking, big-ass creatures could be out there! :) However, it's my understanding that live lobsters aren't red. This giant lobster is definitely a deep-sea and probably prehistoric creature, and you've got skills for aging and antiquing things. A denizen of the deep such as a giant lobster surely would look its age -- dark, barnacled, like living stone. This diorama is not a fail! I thank you for it and for the lessons you share, when things don't go right. It's all good!
