Hear me out, a market where the hunters sell their loot. Like with scales for weighting, different merchants with monster parts, cages with monsters inside (which I believe we still don't have). You can make it big witha lot of open space. It would be a great addition to the town!!!

Being a miner myself and doing rehab work on old mines in Alaska, this is pretty much spot on. The only thing I’d have to say is that the headings the old miners tunneled into were only about 3 feet tall by 2 feet wide. They did that for ground support and didn’t use any timbers in the headings, only on the main foot wall (main access tunnel). Still a very spot on diorama!

It's very strong and supremely agile in the caverns and crevasses and requires not much light. Their metabolism allows for long stretches of work down in the mines, dark and damp recesses being their natural habitats seem to also benefit the creature. Directing the spider and utilizing it's silk allow quick vertical maneuvering of both materials and men.

There's a model of the orphan girl and neversweat mines in a museum in my hometown. First, I can't believe how enormous it was,at one point, there was more room underground than in the town, a lot more. Second, I always thought it was just creepy looking and just frightening thinking about being that far down and so far away from any exit or anything. Now add the possibility of a creature of some kind, well that's a solid nope for me. I'll just go work in the fields, where at least you can see the monster coming.

I actually love how you paint the edges black. It puts more focus on the actual surface, and makes the cut portions more conceptual; helps it recede. Dioramas where the ground texture continues all over the edges look cheesy to me for some reason. Yours always look refined with the black poché, like architectural sections. 🏛

Now that's a cool build! I have an idea for another in the Imaginary Wild West. Could be a scene on a meandering river (the people LOVE resin) with a boat that uses a mech leg as a pushpole to move along in the shallow water. It could stumble across a giant crawfish in the riverbank or something like that, or maybe it's a logging boat that comes across a giant beaver and dam.

I met Stephen Biesty as a kid, and got him to sign his then latest book which was Castle. My mom took me to an event at the local excellent kids book store, Wild Rumpus, Biesty was supposed to be signing books and having an event there like an hour later, and I figured that we'd totally avoid the wait if we showed up early. So we did. I told him how much I loved Man o War, and he pointed out some of the other details in Castle, like the kissing couple that appears in each image, who isn't the spy. Cool guy.

There was a common trend in the 1930s of doctored images that supposedly giant grasshoppers. Examples include: a hunter holding a grasshopper the size of a dog like they would a rabbit they shot, a grasshopper pulling a plow instead of a horse/cow, one that had bucked its rider off like a horse, a grasshopper vs a train, and plenty others. Maybe these grasshoppers actually exist in your Wild West universe? Just an idea

Just discovered WIW and love it - I see it as the era before steampunk, with the greeblies in WIW having purely practical purposes but just waiting for the town to move from a prospector settlement to an established town when the monsters are largely defeated or tamed and money is available for decorative features. One thing on this build would be to use a toggle switch for the lighting incorporating it into the pit head scenery as a lever.

I made a little short story on this Diorama. "Unwelcomed Visitors." One day, George and his miner friend James, decided to go mining. It's been 3 months since they last visited their old Cave back west of the Rockies. Since they were from California, it'd take them quite a while to get to where their mine shaft was. They would spend 3 hours driving. While on this 3 hour trip James had a bad feeling in his gut. Telling George that they shouldn't go to the mine today, James told him it was as if he needed to throw up, but never did. James being heavily religious took it as a sign that they shouldn't go to their mineshaft. But George didn't listen to him, mostly cause he went there 3 days prior to check up on stuff, and he knew that everything was fine. After George and James finally arrived to their mine. They both took out their tools. James took the Pickaxe, flashlight, rope, and a 12-inch Bowie knife just in case there were any un-wanted things down there. George took a Pocket-Utility knife, flashlight, and some rope, with some gloves, as well as a small chisel and hammer. After they got their gear, they both started walking towards the mine entrance. James, with his gut feeling, got a little cold-feet. Telling George they really shouldn't go into the mine, and head back home to their families. But yet again George didn't listen. As they started walking, up ahead they saw their Cart, elevator, as well a few tools. The place was littered with trash, weeds, and the occasional spider web, from wind and neglection. James went down the elevator down to what he some-what remember where he left off 3 months ago. He went to the rock-granite wall, and started mining, in mind he kept getting the creepy-crawlies. And no matter where he looked, he always had that gut feeling, that something was watching him from the shadows. George started mining a brick-rocky wall a level above James. He hated spiders, as they'd always crawl on him, and bite him. He got bit 2 times by un-identified spiders. While mining, he had seen this white, lump of what seemed to be rocks. Little did he know, those rocks weren't rocks. They were spider eggs. Giant ones. As he mined he would feel a slight rumble. Ignoring it, thinking it was just an earthquake, he turned around, filled the cart, and started pushing it. Not looking behind him, a giant, black-grayish spider would creep up behind him. After loading the Cart, he would turn around to a horrific sight. The spider pounced at him, eating half is body, all that remained would be his lower body. His waist, along with two, bloody legs. George, had been eaten. James not hearing the ruckus above him, kept mining. Still feeling as if he was being watched. He got the feeling that he should leave. And this time, he acted on this feeling. He called the Elevator down, and rushed up to it. As soon as he was on the upper level, He saw the remains of his dead friend. Looking up from that, he would see the Giant spider. In shock, he stood still for a second, then he got his Barings. He had sprinted outside of the mineshaft, while crying over the fact that his friend, who he was friends with for over 14 years, got into his car. and had left everything there. 15 years later. He hasn't gone mining since.

What I would love to see, is a camp or caravan of monster hunters, being hunted by flying creatures. I know that you've done airborne things in the past, but I would love to see that. Just an idea for later.

Honestly, I really prefer your mine to Luke's! A lot of scale modelers have noted that Luke's mine feels a bit too much like an anthill. It's spread out, sparse, and feels empty. Yours honestly has a much more active and complete feel. Even without the arachnid. It's tight, claustrophobic, laid out like the many levels of a real life mine, and the lighting and your custom figures and painting are just made for each other. This is one of my favorite builds of yours yet!
