Loving the burrito method! I use this for knickers and boxers for a gusset with nice enclosed seams - when I do this I do often pin the rolled up section, but I do so through one of the outer sections to make for easier retrieval!

Liz, that's pretty ingenious 'burrito' method. It gives such a lovely finish, and of course will be much more comfortable to wear. Another terrific tutorial, beautifully explained and demonstrated, and the fabric is really cute....

Liz, I accidentally bought sheer fabric that is a woven , I believe it is chiffon. so it loves to fray. is there anyway to reinforce the seams as they are tearing out? I have since bought some sheer cup lining and powernet, but i have used them with this fraying fabric.

Woo exciting Liz! I have followed along up to the end of this video so far. How exciting to have two cups! I did mess up and for some reason on one of the cups I couldnt get the top cup piece to align with the bottom two Id sewn. After lots of head scratching I worked out I must have cut one cup wrong and it was easily fixed (luckily I had enough of the fabric I was working with). Now on to part 2!

I always think of the top part of the cup looks like an eyebrow you want the eyebrow pointing with the small end on the outside edge and the small end of the bottom cup on the inside another words opposite ends are small.

Im really enjoying this one. Love the design. Does it use underwire? Also, if the only bras you own are illfitting ones is it still okay to measure yourself wearing one?
@LizSews
@LizSews 6 жыл бұрын
Yep, its an underwire. You can do the over-bust and under-bust measurements without a bra on. It helps to have a bra for the full bust measurement. If its ill-fitting in the sense that the cups are too small and your have tissue spilling over the top ( or sided) then your full bust measurement might be falsely small. If the bra is too big then its probably alright to measure over it. You just want to get an accurate idea of the difference between the two numbers.

Liz, when you made this with quilting cotton, did you cut on the bias for the dogs? I would love to try this with quilting fabric but don’t know if I should cut on bias or use the dogs line to mark grain line. Help please! Thank you!
@LizSews
@LizSews 4 жыл бұрын
i cut the exterior on the straight of grain and lined with a stabilized sheer cup lining that doesn't have any stretch. When using woven's its better to eliminate all stretch with your lining material because bias stretch will cause flat spots

you can use this tutorial too see if the pattern could be modified to work for you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4KVe5d3p853a80 Otherwise i'd suggest Pin-Up Girls patterns for larger sizes. Liz, thank you! The pattern calls for stretchy fabric but I notice your fabric is not stretchy. Or at least I don't think it is stretchy. What kind of difficulties will I run into if I use non stretch frabic?
@LizSews
@LizSews 5 жыл бұрын
Actually the Boylston bra calls for the cups, frame and front straps to be made out of a fabric with little or no movement (non stretch). In my case I've used cotton but I've also had success with duoplex in this pattern . The only part of the bra that calls for stretchy fabric is the back band where I have used power net. Most wired patterns call for combination of stable and stretch fabrics to give support in the frot and room to breath in the back.

I'm confused on how the high bust measurement gets factored into sizing, and I have looked at the Boylston bra sizing info on the Orange Lingerie website. I don't understand the "add 4 inches if under bust measurement is an even number, 5 inches if an odd number" because if I subtract mine (36 inch underbust plus 4 equals 40) from my full bust (41 inches), I get one inch, which puts me at A cup, the very smallest. I know I'm not the smallest size because usually I'm a DD. What am I doing wrong with figuring out size? Thanks
@LizSews
@LizSews 4 жыл бұрын
Orange Lingerie has changed her measuring recommendations since the time this video was filmed. As explained in the video, originally you derived your cup size by taking the difference from your high bust and your full bust. The +4 (or+5) is the standard method for determining band size in the US. Here is a link to her blog post on sizing: orange-lingerie.com/blogs/news/bra-sizing-guidelines-update?_pos=2&_sid=b96d04b1e&_ss=r Because everyone is shaped so differently its impossible to tell you exactly what size you will need, the only way to find out is to sew up the bra and check. Because your RTW size is so different from the measurements I would start with sewing up your RTW size.

How difficult would it be to add padding to the inside of the cup with this pattern? Would it completely change the pattern?
@LizSews
@LizSews 6 жыл бұрын
While the pattern isn't designed for foam when you are making your own you are allowed to change things! You would need to trace out the cup pieces without any seam allowances. The SA are marked on the pattern pieces so its pretty easy. Then cut just your foam using that trace. You sew the foam together by butting up the edges and doing a zig zag or satin stitch. I am planing on doing the Esplanade bra next month which does have foam in the cups so it will give you a better idea of how to construct using foam.

@@laurenlove6083Liz left out one part of the instruction for foam You do cut off the seam allowance for only the foam pieces however do not cut the seam allowance for the bottom of the cup where it is sewn to the Bridge and Frame you need the foam to be attached there or when you wash your Bra the foam can move get wrinkled and never fit right again. Some people who have a lot of fabric sensitivity use Silk Organza to stabilize but it isnt the best for the longevity of the bra since its woven and more prone to fraying then a Knit Tricot

No. This style bra needs a wire to support properly. You would need to make lots of changes to the pattern for it to work without a wire www.braandcorsetsupplies.com/2019/03/17/convert-a-wired-bra-to-be-wire-free/
