Nathan Morris of Boyz II Men serenaded me in concert with his entire first part of this song in 1998. I had front row seats. Almost peed my pants. I will NEVER forget it. ❤️

@@reggaejoe494 Every time I hear the song, the lyrics he sang to me, belong to me. I'm actual friends with Nathan on Facebook (we became friends before he had an assistant handle it), I told him "Thank you... All those women you've personally serenaded have a memory for life. I'll be 50 next month, and I'm still talking about it." 😆

I’m trying to imagine how you’d react if Mike spoke to you with his bass voice. 😜 At the same time, they’re not the same without him. They NEED THAT BASS!
@jeanaejoneshomeavonplanning
@jeanaejoneshomeavonplanning 2 жыл бұрын
@@kgunitkeese17I'd had a huge crush on Nathan for a couple of years before that concert. So during the concert, front-row, I couldn't take my eyes off Nathan which was probably very obvious to him. All four winked at me (I WAS A TOTAL HOTTIE WHEN I WAS 26!). I got a rose from each of them at that concert, and Michael McCary's (bass voice) sweaty towel, all of which I kept for YEARS! 😆 It would have been cool if Michael McCary had sang to me in his deep voice, but Id pre-planned to meet and marry Nathan, so nothing could to top Nathan serenading me. I agree, the group is missing something without Mike's baritone in the background. They need to work something out.
@kgunitkeese17
@kgunitkeese17 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeanaejoneshomeavonplanning Fair enough. 😂 Though Mike isn't a baritone. He's a bass. I'm a bass-baritone, but he's definitely a bass. Nathan is a baritone. So what they are literally right now are two tenors and baritone. Bass is essential. I haven't quite forgiven them because they talked smack about Mike on Larry King's (R.I.P.) interview.

I’m dying at your little “oh” when Wanye (the second guy) starts singing. Wanye always elicits an “oh” from me, to this very day. When I watch these videos and he starts singing, I ALWAYS react like that. Mariah Carey said he’s one of the best singers in the entire world, and she ain’t lyin’. You’ve got to do “Water Runs Dry” by them. It’s lovely.

Yeah that song stayed at #1 for 16 damn weeks and held the longest time at #1 record for 23 years. Also their song "I'll Make Love to You" spent 14 weeks at #1 only to be replaced by their own "On Bended Knee" that then held for 6 weeks. This made them only the 3rd artists to ever take #1 from themselves, the other 2 were Beatles and Elvis just fyi.😎

Boyz II Men broke to the scene with a massive New Jack Swing hit "Motownphilly", discovered by Michael Bivins from New Edition. New Jack swing hits kept coming and remixes too. "Sympin" was equally awesome, but my personal fav is "Under Pressure". But their slow jams were even bigger, as their harmonies, clean cut smart look, and respect for women blew girls hearts away. They were all lead singers, unlike other groups that had just 1. Their acappellas were unbeatable. "It's so hard to say goodbye" was probably the 1st acappella I am aware of to become not just a hit but a classic! "End of the road" was probably number 1 for what feels like a whole year, "One sweet day", "I'll make love to you", "Please don't go away" rocked and my fav was "Uhh Aah" the original album version. Their first album Cooleyhighharmony is a treasure I will never part from. They released more albums but none produced as many hits as first. Eventually Mike Bass who was always carrying a stick, left the group due to chronic back pain. Other guys are still active. I loved your reaction. I'm glad that young people today can appreciate the classix.

the music video is the edited version of this song. If you listen to the soundtrack recording, the intro is 21 seconds long and it includes a spoken word recitation from the group's bass singer, Michael McCary (he's the one holding the cane in the video, who later will do another spoken recitation during the instrumentation of this song). The song is originally 5:50, towards the end, the group keeps ad-libbing and the acapella lasts about 30 seconds until the end. When Boyz II Men first came out in 1991, they had some great songs but it wasn't until this song in 1992 that made me a fan. This remains to be my all time favorite song. You can just feel the pure heartache and emotions.

I read an article about 10 years ago in the New York Times that asked something along the lines of "what happened to the great black men's, R&B singing groups that sung absolutely passionate ballads." Boys II Men were ridiculous popular when I was growing up, and you had another group called All 4 One, those solo artists like Brian McKnight, etc. They carried on a great tradition of popular music after WWII, in the vein of the Drifters, Temptations, Four Tops, Barry White, and even Peaches and Herbs and Earth, Wind & Fire. You also had your solo artists like Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, but a lot of these guys are either gone or well into middle-age. Usher kind of carries on the tradition, same with John Legend and Aloe Blacc, but there hasn't been any groups, and hardly any solo artists who seem to have taken up the mantel beyond this. New Jack Swing, Hip Hop, Rap, and dance pop have become more popular, and that's cool, but I hope we get a big resurgence of this kind of soul soon.

One of my favorites by them. Check out One Sweet Day, a duet with Mariah Carey. Makes me cry every time
