Very Helpful! Hydrogen bonding is FON, but I've had a NOF is how I remember it.

sir,so why intermolecular forces(potential energy which makes up internal energy)become greater when distance between particles becomes larger?

Hey, did you ever figure this out? If you have, I'd really appreciate it if you could share, thanks so much!

In capillary action when a glass tube is placed in water and the water is drawn to the surface of the glass and rises, how exactly is energy conserved? Does the gravitational potential energy from the rise in water mean there is less intermolecular energy between the water and glass than there is in the water to water molecules?

u have never mentioned the unit that used to measure intermolecular energy... it is joule or J per mol ??? please mention.. or does all the energy is measured in joule?

I am sorry but I believe that you did not explain what intermolecular potential energy is. I was trying to find out why does water expand when it freezes, when its internal energy should be decreasing. My intuition is that when molecules move apart--like they do when ice is forming and expanding--the intermolecular potential energy should increase, but I am sure that I am wrong somewhere and I would like to know where. Thanks for making these videos, they are really helpful.

H2O is a polar molecule due to large difference in electronegativity of H and O atom. There is hydrogen bond between each H2O molecule. To maximise the number to hydrogen bonds to form, H2O molecule would have a lattice arrangement which prevents them from packing together In terms of energy, this structure is more stable as hydrogen bond, a attractice intermolecular interaction, can lower the energy

I guess the surface tension of the water is also caused by these intermolecular bonds. Am I right? The mercury also has a nice surface tension? Why is that?
