I don't understand where the Coefficient comes from. Like in Magnesium and Oxygen, their equation is 2Mg + O2 = 2MgO . Where did the Magnesium's coefficient come from? :(

+Astereia Maoui oh dude i've been wondering that as well is it from the positive and negative charges maybe? can someone who knows plz answer :D

in the best way i can possibly describe, that coefficient is based upon how many of a certain thing you have in your equation. so for instance, let's look at your example. the base equation given to you by most chemistry classes would probably be Mg + O2 = MgO and it would then ask you to balance the equation. now, since oxygen is a sneaky seven it has a 2 at the end of it when it stands alone. in our equation it DOES stand alone, so that's how we get Mg + O2. now, when it combines with magnesium, they both have a charge of 2. in magnesium's case, it's a 2+ charge, in oxygen's a 2- charge. they both cancel out and you therefore get MgO as the product. however, stating Mg + O2 = MgO is incorrect because on the left you have TWO oxygens, but on the right, you have one. to make the equation "balanced" you need to make sure there are two oxygens on both sides. so, to do that, you place a 2 in front of the MgO which makes both magnesium and the oxygen have a 2. thus, we alos need to place a 2 in front of the magnesium on the left which gives us the overall equation 2Mg + O2 = 2MgO. just now realizing this is from 1 year ago, so this might have been unnecessary. gg.

coefficient is how many molecules are there in a compound.. to balance the equation,as stated in the law of conservatiob of mass, the no. of atoms in the reactant side will be the same with the product side.. so as you count having a coefficient of 2in Mg (Coefficient 2 will be multiply to its subscripts which is 1) makes them balance with the product side which also has 2atoms of Mg.

Video is superb, I doubt what you commented about the reactivity of nitrogen. Isn't it Sodium is more reactive.

Hello, I've watched a lot of khan academy and one thing I've noticed is that in many areas there isn't a lot of depth. Why don't you partner up with khan academy to help provide them with content while at the same time building your viewers?
