I have a friend who told me that about half the lights in his house are wired in series. What an electrician he must have. It sure gave me a good laugh in any case.

I wish i had known about this website when i started my Elect Princ class... would have made it so much easier as my teacher isnt very visual in the way he teaches and this really helps me as a visual learner to understand all this.

That was the most informative description I have ever seen. I build model buildings for my model railroad, and have recently started adding LED lights to them. Since I like multiple lights in some cases, I wanted a parallel circuit, but wasn't sure about the power supply requirements. Now I know that, put simply, the more LED lights I add, the more current will be used and the battery will run out sooner. That's what I needed to know, and NOW it all makes sense. Thank you.

The duplex outlets in our houses are wired in parallel (from each breaker in the panel). Easy to see that the current (amps) are accumulating until the breaker trips. Voltage remains constant at 120. Thank you for a informative video.

Nice video😊 in series circuit the sum of individual voltage drop is equal to the source voltage .high resistance bulb high current flow and the current is the same at any point of circuit . the Parallel Circuit adding resistance in parallel circuit increase current flow. The total resistance in parallel circuit is always less than to smallest resistance.total current is equal the sum of the branch current.

Exactly. When current is increased the electrons don't move faster, there are just more electrons moving through than there were before. Their speed doesn't go up, just their volume .

You did a good job explaining, however at the beginning the "battery" you were talking about is not actually a battery, it is a voltaic cell because it is 1.5V. If it had 4 lines instead of 2, then it'd be a battery. Also, the circuits should have a switch that controls the electron flow, from open to closed, or else current will be flowing forever and you can't stop it.

Hi Mr Andersen....i am working on a project - i need to light up 24 leds in series or parallel but im not sure which option is best. What V do i need to light up 24 leds in series and if im using 24 leds in parallel what resistance (how many resistors) would i need - i tried to do this without the resistors and eventually leds burnt out.

You don't need parallel lights for Christmas lights. Instead, they can still be in series, but when one burns out there is an anti-fuse associated with each bulb. Basically once it burns out the anti-fuse goes from high resistance to low resistance, and shorts out the circuit were it was broken when the bulb burned out.

If one light bulb consumed 0,9A, two in series won't consume 0,45A. Light bulb is non-linear load. The resistance of the filament is rising with it's temperature. The more current you are putting through the light bulb, the hotter is the filament and greater the filament's resistance. So, two light bulbs in series will be 'colder' than single one, and they filaments will have smaller resistance. The current will be greater than the half on the current of single light bulb.

in a parallel circuit 2 bulb is same and potential difference is same but why sometimes for example, the top bulb get 0.8 amps and the bottom 1 amps

Mr. Anderson, I am working on my Mater's Degree in Secondary Education General Science. I took the praxis test last month and failed by 1 question. Out of all of the 200 questions, I found myself guessing on a lot of the electricity problems. I believe this will help me on the next test in May. Thanks!
