@Mary C Let me correct you. Dick Sargent was not openly gay. Back then, someone who came out could have lost their jobs (not likely in the entertainment industry) or, in some parts of the country, have been arrested. Sargent's biography for BEWITCHED listed a phony wife, which meant Sargent couldn't even be open about his private life, if he'd wanted to be. Liz knew Sargent was gay and never pushed it. She respected his privacy. Dick Sargent and his partner had to live in the "closet" because of the Puritanical attitudes in some parts of the country at the time, and still exists to this day. If you'd like to see an interview with Dick Sargent, there is one where he explains the situation out here on KZbin, look for the documentaries on BEWITCHED done in 1999 by A&E and E:, if you haven't seen them. There are interviews with Liz Montgomery, including a two-part audio interview where she discussed BEWITCHED in part two, heaping praise on the cast and crew. Finally, from what I've heard, Paul Lynde was openly gay and didn't care. Sargent was "forced" to come out because The Star magazine was about to print an article outting him. At an event Sargent finally came out. He received a multi-minute standing ovation. That's when he was asked to see if Liz would co-marshal the 1992 gay rights parade with him. According to her son Billy, she felt that it was something she wanted to do, and did. Liz was way ahead of her time in her support of AIDS research and gay rights and the rights of all people. I remind you of SISTERS AT HEART and the African-American students who came up with the groundbreaking idea. Oh, it was Liz Montgomery's favorite episode. For me this episode and A IS FOR AARDVARK define what BEWITCHED was all about. I haven't read where Liz didn't like Dick York. Did she say something in one of Herbie Pilato's books? He was actually a very nice guy, as was Sargent. York had nothing but kind words for the BEWITCHED cast and crew. He actually called Liz but she was out. He didn't say if she got back with him or not. Search for York's interview here on KZbin.

oh yes. Everyone was great in original cast. Ratings started dropping when poor Dick York had to leave due to health. Sargent was charisma challenged
@MTknitter223 жыл бұрын
Kerry Keene You are right about everything from what I have read. For some people TRY to push this Liz did not like Dick York junk. 1 short term hired production team member said that. Dick was PIVOTAL to the show, and Liz darn well knew their chemistry was magic. Ratings dropped when he left and that is a fact.
@garybennett10703 жыл бұрын
@@MTknitter22 Sorry, hon. Third season producer William Froug stated clearly in his autobiography that Liz "couldn't stand" York and was witness to a private meeting with executive producer Harry Ackerman in which he stated, "We have to get rid of HIM!" And that was at the end of season two! It was Asher who advised Liz that York was too valuable to the series. York was very talented, and a good man, but Liz had genuine reason to dislike his presence. It's a very long story, and a sad one.

Yes I have gotten so depressed over the many many deaths of actors and actresses I grew up with from 50s-70s TV. I still cannot believe Mary Tyler Moore is gone, Rhoda, Batman and Batgirl, Elly May Clampett, Willona from Good Times, Tracey and Keith from the Partridge Family, Millie Helper and Sally Rogers from the Dick Van Dyke Show, etc., etc.
@josephclegg35624 жыл бұрын
I think the actresses who played the daughter, Tabitha, and the actor who played the son, Adam, are still living. I think Diane and Erin Murphy(Tabitha)are in their mid to late 50s, and David Lawrence(Adam)is in his late 40s or early 50s.

5:10 - a rare shot indeed. You see Erin in red and her twin sister Diane in Navy. They were interchangeably used in season 3 and 4, but then only Erin was used outside of one episode when she had the mumps. Diane started looking a lot different at that point. Also pictured is "Adam", David and Greg Lawrence. This is around the end of the run. They had completed filiming shows in December 1971 despite the shows not airing until March 1972.

These stills are fabulous and I loved your music too! Makes me so sentimental for that time. As a childhood fan watching this show in the early 1970s, the music and the stills bring back so many fond memories of the most beautiful time in history. We didn’t realise how lucky we were back then to have had the childhoods and the world as it was then. The 1970s were the best time to be a kid. By the 1980s, the new world with its technology and vulgarity had come in. But the early 70s were the last time the world was still a bit innocent. I know the show began in the 60s but I wasn’t born until the late 60s and in Australia we got Bewitched as reruns but as a kid who knew when it was! It all felt so new and wonderful. In a digital age now people forget how incredible all those special effects (done by hand and with strings) seemed to us as kids! The magic was just gobsmacking to us and we were so excited to watch it. All of that has been forgotten now in an age when everything on screen is possible. But there was a time, and a world, when things and people and places still seemed so amazing. That is not the world you live in now.

The music on this always makes my daughter so emotional. As I said on another one of your videos, she is special needs and has advanced ovarian cancer. Growing up she was in an environment where she only really knew and saw people of her own color. As she grew older and understood how to read more about Liz, she learned about what mattered to her, the things she stood for. It was through Liz that my daughter learned acceptance, of all races and sexual orientations. It's so amazing how another human being can have such an impact on the life of someone they have never met.

We always thought the last episode of Bewitched should have had the first Darrin being married to Samantha! Then have said that the second Darrin was a mortal married to Serena!

Thank you for this collection of stills. Great memories of a great t.v. show. Love the last picture of Elizabeth backlit pose...beautiful. In practically any old movie that includes a scene of a movie studio from the outside you'll see extras walking by there's the inevitable Indian, cowboy, saloon or Harem girls, funny that one of your stills [ 19:11 ], showing outside the Bewitched studio stages, you see an Indian and, I think, a harem dancer.

I was watching this and in the background, my Mom goes - "what is that beautiful music?" I love it too! Just really ads to these awesome shots. We were talking and agreed this brings you back to a nicer, simpler time in our history. Everyone today is so hard on each other, just waiting to find your flaws and jump on you for everything. Thanks for this video, what a masterpiece!
