@TylerBauer89 I think voices like Francesco Merli, Ramon Vinay, Francesco Tamagno, Gianfranco Cecchele, Nicola Martinucci, Giuseppe Giacomini, and Franco Bonisolli were also great "real" Otellos. I have though listened to a lot more Del Monaco and I have found a new appreciation for his voice and the way he used it in the early and middle parts of his career. It was an exciting instrument.

Omar B impressive you are familiar with so many OTELLO artists. I knew Del MONACO was the best, the first time I heard and saw him in person. He was born to perform this Role and Pagliacci, Andre CHENIER , Norma, and a number of other Great OPERAS. IAN KAYE

Tyler you need to look up Ramon Vinay, Francesco Tamagno and Giuseppe Giacomini. They were also great Otellos and in my opinion there voices were better suited for this role even though MDM's voice was great for it

Supreme Esultate! But Verdi also insisted on many soft mezza voce passages which Domingo could manage much better. But no one could match del Monaco's entrance.

Dave Glo There are more examples on you tube of MDM managing mezza voce And even more so in Otello. MDM had 3 different interpretations of the Moor with over 400 performances
