Wish i could go back and experience this era of rail, 60s/70s/80s/90s. Rail network was good and trains that all had character. Todays era is so plain

Thanks for the nostalgia. ..up here in Fife it used to be class 26/27 most days ..and a few 37s you could hear them coming a mile off...it's all rather bland now...why progress has to take the soul out of everything beats me

The thing with your vids Trev are that you capture trains with mixed liveries like br blue with swallow exec colours as they truly were, most modellers run all one livery rakes on their layouts, well worth waiting for the class 37 with its mixed freight, thanks for sharing with us all.

I was reading how they raised Holgate Road Bridge by one foot in 1980. That HST at 2.47 would have been touching it before then.

Nice footage, I especially like the MGR coal trains. Spending the night at Retford waiting for the level crossing signals alerting you to yet another load of coal. The railways were far better as BR and not this mish mash we have now. My only criticism of your footage is its slightly distorted between 4:3 format and something trying to be widescreen.

I was only 3 years old in 1986 I am now 35 years old in 2018 how times have changed since British Rail Green and Blue also Rail freight Grey and the intercity liveries.

yeh, just how I remember it ~ whatta great place it was back then...used to do Friday nights overnights..on the platform..usually Platform 9...used to get just about everything come through..in the wee hours..was amazing man..and often spent hours during day under Holgate bridge..parked my bike on hard standing ( RD 400E ) which I had then..and sat there with my back pack of books..collecting loads....ahh mate..how that place is completely ruined now..tracks ripped up, washing lines everywhere..and probly all that one would find now..is HST's , Electric 91's, and like everywhere else..just boring frigging units..!!!.

Can only happen if and when we leave the EU. It's part of EU policy that state run railways be sold off. We did it and it destroyed our network almost as much as Beeching. Pre privatisation we had busy goods yards, multiple works for build and repair of motive power and rolling stock. Now we have next to nothing and buy it all in. Disgrace.
