Wow, that brings back memories! I worked on the footplate, based at York between 1981 and 1986. I often worked the shift shown as 2:45 class 08 pulling wagons from Rowntrees (Nestle) to Dringhouses then back to Foss Islands with Coal etc. More great memories driving the dual head 20s (mostly P-Way), dual head 37s pulling steel from Tyne Yard and so many 31s, 45s, 47s. I also had the pleasure of driving almost all the Deltics before they were withdrawn. Wow, thanks for memory lane!

I was a freight guard at Tees Yard in that era and remember the old track layout well, it lost it's character once they removed the main lines through what were platforms 8 and 9. I was having a few beers in York with friends one night when they were electrifying the station, when we came back to the station to get our late night train home to Middlesbrough they were in the process of lifting the main line footbridge in order to get clearance for the electrification wires. I wish I'd had a camera that evening :-(

Well done, Roy, a great selection as always. How I miss the sound of those big Sulzers and the various EEs from down the years. I can manage without the eardrum-rattling screech of the Paxmans, however. Finally, some lovely footage of the big green kettle to close. Terrific!

York was one of those places that was a very special treat, always a few hours on the station, NRM, and of course the rail riders HQ then a few more hours on the station. Maybe a stop off at Doncaster. Wish I’d kept all my platform tickets and rover cards. Great video

York Station was a very busy station in the 1980s until 1990 yor Station had charector in them days. I really miss that York Station has remembered seeing in 1987. Those class 20s were great in that film., sadly they have ruined once my favourite station, a lot of lines have long gone. It would be nice if they could bring two middle lines, and put extra more lines on

Why would the Guard tell people to change at York for Thirsk or Northallerton, when the Train had come through those places to get to York in the first place...?
@keithreay9735 ай бұрын
The train was heading northwards into York so hadn't come from the Thirsk and Northallerton direction. As the guard asked passengers to change at York it tells you that particular service wouldn't be calling at Thirsk and Northallerton.
