BRITISH RAILWAYS IN THE 1990's
Woking Station on 8th February 1991 (After Heavy Snowfall)
Continuing with my archive of video recording between the years of 1986 to 2001 this clip is of Woking Station taken on 08/02/1991. On this day the South East awoke to a heavy covering of snow which had fallen from the previous evening and throughout the night. It caused the expected chaos with roads and railway, but did not stop me from visiting Woking Station in the morning. Trains were battling through for the morning rush and seemed to cope quite well from this clip. As always the snow thawed and most was back to normal soon later. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually. Sit back and enjoy this latest production remembering all those now long gone Locomotive classes and other types of traction. Many thanks for all subscriptions and all of those viewers who have kindly shown an interest in my material.

Many a winter morning spent staring at the snow covered platform and tracks hoping the train will show up. No mobile phone and live updates in those days. "The garble garble to garble garble has been cancelled". ❤

February 1991. Sussex Coast lines had EPBs running for weeks after that snow whilst the backlog of failed CIGs & VEPs was dealt with. Remember it well.

I once made it all the way to Woking from Leeds just for the 50s, this was before 47/7s had come down, and the first train I got I had to board before I knew what was on it because it was just about to leave Waterloo. When I made my way to tbe front to see which 50 was on I found a 47/8! Gutted!

I had to go into Salisbury that day or I would have stayed at Home, anyway the 50's after this were turning around at Basingstoke by midday, I went up on Elgar and got it back an hour later after saying stuff this in this cold. Note the Wessex hated the snow with their REP motors and the juice needed another de-icer through by the looks of things.
