Friday, July 12, 2013, 4:53 p.m. On this traditionally busy day due to holiday departures, Paris-Limoges train No. 3657 leaves the Gare d'Austerlitz with 385 passengers on board. 18 minutes and 30 kilometers later, as it enters Brétigny-sur-Orge station, the train derails and the train splits in two.
Several cars overturn, one is even propelled onto the platform, tearing off poles and mowing down passengers.
The toll is very high. Through previously unpublished testimonies from victims, we will relive this tragedy; one of the worst train disasters in France since the 1980s. What really happened? Why did the train suddenly derail? Human error or technical problem?
