Absolutely best Musician of the twentieth century...

Co Ru. Oh please. I love Zappa but calling him one of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century is not even close.
@masuokaku97887 жыл бұрын
Would you care to suggest some alternatives, then? Stravinsky comes to mind, but beyond that the choice is pretty thin... Not even close? To who, exactly? (not that it's a competition, but even so)

This man is long gone from this physical world. He is still alive and will forever in his art and his beautiful compositions. His music lives on as a timelesss reminder of freedom and Jazz and music and liberty.
@maskenwatch672 жыл бұрын
You said that very beautifully. I also see it that way. Whenever I listen to Zappa records, FZ is extremely alive. In itself, it's a really fine thing.
@tadsiskiyou42132 жыл бұрын
I really admire Zappa, I don't gel with all of his works, but really like his longer improvs and live pieces where he was more jamming. I particularly like the example he set when in trials against the PMRC and against censorship. He fought for liberty.. That makes him a patriot and a hero in my book.

+FooBarr1 The three guitar players who made listening to long guitar solos worthwhile and enjoyable. I've always said that FZ was a brilliant improvisationalist. Jerry and Jimi fit that bill too.
@Sausahgagutz7 жыл бұрын
Beautiful! FZ was exceeded by none of his peers and wrote some of the most original and unparalleled music ever written. Tragically, he continues to suffer from a continuing critical disdain that no other composer/musician has been the victim of.to the point of being nearly forgotten.
@haroldkrishna41167 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I've always felt that since he testified before Congress (PMRC Hearings), he really made some enemies and was more or less blacklisted since then. Try finding his music on any "classic rock" format. Although he never had truly extensive airplay back in the day, the more progressive stations played his music on a regular basis. Certainly, there was (and still is) plenty of his music that would pass FCC muster, for what that is worth!

Frank Zappa was a genius who's music was way before it's time. I've been at several of his concerts, and have met Frank as well as other members of the group. The drummers were magnificant. My favorite of his albums was the Freak Out album. It was definately a hit along with a candle lit formal dinner with friends! I told them I would play some soft dinner background music, and put on Freak Out! It was truely an experience of a lifetime! rjr

Of course they are some of the most talented musicians and 99.9% on point. I am addicted to Frank and grateful for it!!!
@vonjunzt41302 жыл бұрын
Zappa was doing jazz/rock/classical fusion before anybody else, as evidenced by these recordings especially. Considering his popularity in Europe at the time, he was probably responsible for much of the sophisticated rock music to come from Europe. This was before King Crimson, before Miles Davis, before Can. I love Miles and Can especially, but this came first for sure. He might have single-handedly launched (for better or worse) jazz rock fusion. Who else was doing this in 1968?

Soft Machine
@vonjunzt4130 Жыл бұрын
@@Deluxeta Soft Machine was as close as anybody got at that time. Maybe Gary Burton's band in the US played fusion also. But I still say it was Zappa. Zappa played live with Pink Floyd by the way, way back in 1969.

Just visiting, again on one of my favorite segments to choose from at The Control headquarters for top shelf UMRK ingredients for the 10th time in 60 days. Must have my daily dose of Frank & 90% of the time it is a release so generously & unselfishly provided by br1tag. Love the metamorphic changes & growth of a masterpiece jam/suite from the approximate inception(’68) through 1984 with a beautiful descent back to 78 to close it out. Much thanks! Particularly dig Franks absolutely sick shredding of the 07/04/82 Bologna as well as 12/11/81 Santa Monica versions……WOW!!
