Key to driving on wintry roads... don't do ANYTHING fast-- turn slowly, brake gently and slowly, and accelerate gently/slowly. Give yourself double the following distance (minimum) and GO SLOWLY... speed causes more problems than anything. Doing everything slowly is much more likely to maintain traction, which is what you need. Losing traction= spin out or slide into other vehicles/obstacles. Ya ain't going nowhere fast on slippery roads, and if you try you probably won't be going anywhere at all when you spin out or slide off or wreck out... TAKE YOUR TIME. I've driven in white-outs in Indiana and Illinios and blizzards all the way down to Memphis before-- even on salted roads I was doing 40-45 at times and lost count of how many semis and four wheelers I passed spun out or slid off the road or jack knifed in the ditches. You sure ain't going nowhere fast when you're stuck in a snow drift, which we don't have to worry about down here, but you're not going anywhere if you've wrecked out and damaged your vehicle on slippery roads which we can get a lot of...
