Twenty years as a Paramedic, so many times I had to deal with this. At least twice I went to work, and didn't see my own bed again until a week later. Now in the Philippines, and don't miss working during snowstorms in the least. Of course now I have Typhoons to deal with, but life is never perfect. Nice video

Great shots of what bad winter storms can be like. This is why authorities ask people to stay off the roads. Deadly in more ways than one. Just because you own a 4x4 doesn't mean you can get around. When the plows and sanding trucks can't stay on the roads neither will you. From high snowfall to driving winds and frigid temps winter storms can be brutal and deadly. I did a 3 hour trip in 5 hours near Seattle where there was at least an inch of glare ice on the roads -- 30 km/hr on the I5 just trying to get to the airport. Even the police were in the ditch. Never again.

Saskatchewan here. Winter is long. Snow arrives in November or late October and stays. Doesn't melt until April. Sometimes there ae blizzards in May and also in August although rare. BUT it can be minus 25 or minus 35 or whatever, and there will be bright sunshine. German or Swiss immigrants remark about how much sun there is in the winter. They like it. But sun does not equal warm.

In around 1950 my husband was 10 years old living in Michigan & it started snowing on Thanksgiving day & continued to snow til 2 days after Christmas. They had a 2 story house & could walk out his upstairs bedroom window onto solid snow. They had to make paths from house to barn & other bldgs- these pathways had walls of frozen snow 10-12 ft high. The mailboxes were several feet under the snow- snow was still melting in the early summer. Hmmm, he said they never had another winter like that one - maybe Michigan gets one?

@JustThankinJesus
@JustThankinJesus Ай бұрын
When traveling in snowy areas with thick packed snow. Usually there’s signs saying to pull over and put on snow chains. It’s chains, shaped like a ladder. The wrap the tire.. can lay them in front of each tire, and then drive forward 10” or so, and then wrap over the tire and connect the ends. Chains give tires more grip to stop sliding.

In the past, we have had 30 ft. of snowfall in the Sierras in a week. Nobody pays attention to 10 inches of snow here But then, it doesn't get nearly as cold as it does in many parts of the USA and Canada and you have to deal with extremely icy roads a lot.

I remember when we used to have Winters in Wisconsin and it even used to snow here once upon a time !!! GOSH how I wish it would snow like that here! Even a fraction of that!!! The ridiculously low amount of snow that we get in an entire season nowadays doesn't equal what we used to get in single days 20 years ago those were the days when they shut down the roads and you could just sled (snowmobile) the right down the center of the road for as long as you want!
