I had braces from seventh grade until my sophomore year in high school. The best way I can explain the pain would be like getting hit in the mouth and the pain afterwards. Its gradually gets worse over time and you want to rip your teeth out. The things that helped me was broth, instant mashed potatoes, and popsicles. On another note.... I was super impressed with his saxophone skills.

I had a chain the whole time i had braces. Day 1 of a new chain hurts! Eating is very challenging for a day. 1st couple of chains may take 2 to 3 days to feel better. Once things get moving in that direction, new chains dont hurt as long. Ibuprofen was my best friend, it might help you too. Hope things are feeling better soon.

Jacob, did you know Charlie Chaplin was from London. My great grandma’s cousins were a comedy impressionist duo called Lorna and Toots Pounds who were born in Australia but lived in London. They performed a lot in America too in silent films alone and also with Charlie Chaplin.

Regarding rubberband wearing, I feel like online classes for Bailey counts as "at school" if it's a class she participates in. If it's a passive class where she's just watching, more like a presentation, then it's probably not "at school" and a time for wearing rubberbands.

Question for Bailey... my 12yr old is starting her orthodontic journey, she needs 4 teeth removed and then braces. She has some very misaligned teeth.... what advice can you give that I can tell her, do you have any tips or tricks for looking after them and are there certain things you like to have in the days following your tightening sessions.... And for Jessica, what do you do to support your child going through this when they find it painful? How do you pick them up when they are despondent about going to the appointments. Any advice regarding tooth removal day?

I just got my teeth removed a couple months ago. It hurts bad. Ice cream and popsicles were helpful because the pain made me too nauseous to feel hungry. It was super scary how much blood there was afterwards. Watching my favorite movies helped a lot. After they remove the teeth they put in spacers which are tiny but hurt so bad. I couldn’t sleep the night after they put them in. Ice packs and hot showers helped a lot.

Chewing may hurt, but it can actually help the pain. Some orthodontists even give a little bite pad, though I never got one.

In Sweden braces are free until the age of 23 if the dentist says you need them. ❤

i cant believe how big the kids are. i remember when Bailey ate sand!! and now she’s almost an adult. im sorry she is in pain because of her braces. i remember braces being the worst hopefully she feels better soon

Jessica, in the new year can you all get your B12 and iron tested. You are all showing signs of b12 deficiency or pernicious anemia. It is very common in families. If it is it needs injections, as it can’t be fixed by diet or supplements.

When I had braces with the rubber bands like Bailey my grandma got me wintergreen extract if you rub it on the gums it helps i felt like it helped me more than Tylenol did and it’s just extract so all natural

It’s not my favorite, but The Greatest Showman was a good movie. It was interesting, sentimental, entertaining, & had so many beautiful song performances. I haven’t seen it in years & now I’m thinking about a rewatch, but I don’t wanna watch alone. It gave all the feels so I want someone to experience & talk about it with. Agree on Forrest Gump. It’s one of my favorite movies.

I got braces in my early 20s. The first 6 weeks I could barely eat because I was in so much pain. And then after every tightening it would take a couple days for the pain to ease. I got in the habit of taking pain meds before going and then eating baked potato soup from Safeway (Vons in California?) because it didn’t require a lot of effort to eat.

My palate was a bit to small so I wore a retainer (english is not my first language so maybe its called differently) all of the time even when I ate. And they screwed the retainer so that it would expand every time I went to the orthodontist. Luckily i didn’t need an other operation to expand my pallet. But yeah it did hurt alot.

Oh man. I had chains on my braces about 10 years ago. Seriously the worst things in the entire world -- rubber bands were way better. I have no advice, only sympathy, I had HOLES in my cheeks from them. Things of nightmares. Sorry Bailey!
