Braces Off! How to know if you're DONE WITH BRACES?!

Taking braces off is one of the best parts of being an orthodontist.
When checking to see if a patient is ready to have their braces removed I look at a lot of things but here are the main 3 concepts I look for.
1. Straightness of teeth: Do all of the teeth align properly in a nice U shape
2. Overjet: Are the top teeth slightly ahead of the bottom teeth.
3. Midlines: Do the top and bottom teeth line up to the middle of the face.
At the end of treatment, I will smooth out the tops of the teeth, and you can get whitening completed.

Look if had braces for 4 months so far not all the times ur gonna tighten ur wire and if u do yes its most likely every time u tighten youl feel soreness sometimes its better sometimes its not it really depends but year hope this answers ur question sorry for late reply lol

Mine are off by a little. I had invisilign for 1.5 years and the ortho couldn’t fix them so I went into traditional for 2.5 years. Thought they were fixed. I feel like something is off with my bite/how my top and bottom teeth lay on each other, but my ortho insists that everything looks good. 🤬

Yea you have to have a tooth pulled out to match a mid line. I don’t have a midline but they are straight. I came out of them in July 2023 and they have moved. I asked for a rebrace. Getting that done in February 2024

For anyone who is looking for this comment, I'm here to help! I got my braces 2 days ago, and it hurts to chew, I got upper braces only, since I have a crossbite, and it does hurt to chew, but it's not that bad. It depends on the person I guess but for me it hurts when I eat but it's not unbearable. I can eat stuff like chicken nuggets if I use the side of my mouth to chew slightly. It does hurt the sides of my mouth, and there is cuts, but I just distract myself and the pain goes away, I don't use painkillers, but I eat ice cream or something cold for pain. And apparently it takes 3-5 days or even a week for it not to hurt to chew down on food and to be able to eat normally. So it will take another few days for me but I'm looking forward to it! :)) Also apparently you feel the same discomfort when you get them refitted and they change wire so it'll be another 3-5 days pain when you do get them refitted. :D Good luck to everyone and if you have any questions ask me, and I'll try to answer them! :D Edit: Im also getting my braces off in eight months so a short amount of time for me since the cross bite isn't major and it wasn't a must to get braces I just wanted them to have straight teeth 💀🙏

I have a question that really concerns me… Can the rubber bands on my Invisalign make my bite crooked if they pull at two different angles? Explanation: I just started treatment and the hooks on the left side of my upper trays were somehow cut backwards, so they won’t hold the bands. Originally, both hooks were on my canines but the orthodontist hand cut new slits on my left “first premolars” for my first few trays. He put in an order for my trays to get corrected but I won’t get those until tray 6-7. The problem is the bands pull at different angles and from asymmetrical locations. I’m not wearing them because it feels like my bite is going to be crooked. Should I be concerned?

My orthodontist wants to remove my braces , but my overjet it's more than 5 millimeters, my lateral incisors rotation still off. The only thing I see it's that my midline is perfect and that my braces are payed off. He is not even trying to closed the overbite with elastic techniques I'm so frustrated it.😔

My ortho got mad cause I told her I felt like my midline was off. She made me put an elastic that kinda fixed it so I just told her it looked better and she just gave me finishing elastics that are zigzag on both sides for my bite and I get my braces off in 3 weeks

@@b.sheikh4143it could takes a week or so but in terms of months most likely a month. But if not than they need to make sure everything is lined up and continue to make more adjustments per month or even a couple of weeks just to make sure that you can get them off in the correct way.

I had invisilign for 1.5 years… didn’t work, then went into braces for 2 years. I got them off a few months ago. I have bonding on my right front tooth. Since day one of getting them off, I have complained about my bottom two teeth putting pressure on that one tooth. The ortho said they’ll continue to move and should be okay. Said if it’s still having issues, my dentist can fix it with bonding. Dentist took a look, said that is not a bonding issue. Still did not fix the issue. the ortho said it’s because they are unevenly worn so he ground down the four bottom front. Still having issues and I feel uncomfortable about it. Could this be because they were never correctly aligned? When I was younger, I remember they put these rings around a few of my teeth in the back. This time, they didn’t. Not sure what it’s for. Thank you!

My orthodontist took my braces off when im not finished!!!!! im pissed, I cant bite down with the midline straight, going for 2nd opinion what to do next week, I need some money back if he is going to quit on me, he said come back in 2 months, I see problems everywhere, bottom molars pushed down and bent from bite blocks, Bite blocks removed one year ago and zero bottom wire adjustments. Thats why only my ride side mismatched premlors are hitting. You cant make this crap up to be honest, wish you were my ortho!!!!!!

Do you require them to take surgery? My orthodontist said in order to match top teeth midline and bottom teeth midline, I must take jaw surgery or else it won't be possible. I denied taking jaw surgery. If I don't have a midline, I won't be looking for it.

I would definitely get them tightened and keep them a couple more weeks. I had a tiny gap between my 2 front teeth so my ortho put some kind of silver thread and power chain in top. The gap closed pretty fast.

The last six months will be finishing and detailing your smile, adjusting each tooth. I wore braces and arch expanders and now have to wear permanent retainers for life to keep my teeth perfectly straight. It's worth it, you'll end up with a really wide, perfect straight smile to show off!

QUESTION: I had braces for four years in high school and I got them off and wore my retainer for about 9 years; lost it and forgot about it. In my 30’s I got braces again to fix a couple teeth that shifted back. Now I have been wearing my retainer for 12 years every single night, but this one tooth keeps wanting to turn slightly back to where it was before all of this started. I had asked my orthodontist if he could put a permanent retainer on those couple of teeth and he said no?!?! Now it’s turning slightly, but I’m not paying for braces again or anything! I’m wearing my retainer…..any thoughts? I’m very proud of my teeth and work in the dental field as an assistant so it bothers me a lot!

Hmmm. If it's a lower tooth I would just do a permanent retainer or a clear retainer as I think those are two good options
