Bracing Rear-Facing Car Seats | Ask a CPST | Car Seat Safety | Diono®

If your rear-facing car seat is “braced,"" that means the top of the car seat is touching the front vehicle seat. Diono® allows bracing with rear-facing car seats, but ONLY if your vehicle manufacturer allows it, as our CPST and safety advocate Scott explains in this quick edition of "Ask a CPST." Some vehicles prohibit bracing as it can throw off the airbag sensors, so it's important to consult your vehicle manual BEFORE installing your seat in a braced position.
IMPORTANT: Remember to read both your car seat manual and vehicle manual before and during car seat installation! Additionally, we recommend finding a CPST (Child Passenger Safety Technician) to assist with the installation of your car seat by visiting cert.safekids.org. Many children's hospitals also have CPSTs or can direct you to a local resource that can help.
