Hello all! I have been fairly obsessed for a while by this amazing Brad Mehldau solo on Wonderwall. Really creative outside lines that go all over the place harmonically combined with quite atypical LH voicings. Hope this inspires some of you to explore this great artist more. I’ll be posting more of solo transcriptions from many different artists on my KZbin channel in the next few months. Very welcome to check them out and maybe even subscribe? Would also love to hear any feedback and suggestions from you all. :)
This video is for instructional purposes only. I do not own the rights to this music.
If you would like a PDF copy of this solo or any of the other solo’s I have posted, I have started selling them for the bargain price of 5 euros/dollars a piece. You can also buy 5 for 20. Payments can be made via Paypal or Mobile pay. I will have an online shop set up soon for transcription and CD purchases, but for now you can email me at domir.productions@gmail.com

Awesome job! You heard a few rhythms of repeated notes differently than I had. I found your vid as I was giving a lesson about transcriptions, and my student asked me how I check myself and my answer, in all it's 60 year old hubris, was that at a certain point you know if you have it or don't, but sure, let''s check out some other old dude's transcription of this Brad M solo I scribbled recently enough on staff paper to still be on the piano (to a young person everyone over 25 is equally decrepit) We put on the headphones, watched my hand scribbled paper go by comparing it to yours, and sure enough in every case I had a slight discrepancy notating the rhythm from what you had heard, my student and I both heard plainly through headphones that you were right and I was wrong, much to the giggling delight of my student who saw his always-right teacher be wrong wrong wrong. I mean I could play along with it just fine, but now I'll rework playing these rhythms with the correct notation in my head and it'll be more accurate. on the other hand I'm of the habit of playing the transcription perfectly, then never again, to keep track of my style. but first I lifted a few thousand things to get that foundation. thanks for encouraging this essential practice of practice

Thanks Jim! Really appreciate your comments. Yes, this transcribing thing is super essential for learning this beautiful language. I have to say that this particular one was one of the most difficult and one of the most rewarding… Spent A LOT of time trying to get it right… Will have to find a new Mehldau solo to absorb soon… ;)

It actually is an Oasis jazz cover. But you're hearing only the improvised solo section, not the whole song... Def check it out. Brad has so many great covers of pop songs...

Man...I was kinda bummed for failing to "fix" my sleep schedule today but at least I was up. Then I saw this and somehow thought watching/listening to a Brad Meldhau solo wasn't gonna remind me how I'm 42 and will never be the musician I dreamed of being "someday" when I was in high school and reignite dem old suicidal thoughts 😑
@RupertTheD
@RupertTheD 2 жыл бұрын
Dude… Please seek help if you are having suicidal thoughts… :( I see this so often especially with students…And I’m definitely sometimes guilty of that kind of thinking myself… I get it it… Especially when I see ridiculously young musicians playing at a level I’ll never get to… But remember that almost no one becomes the musician they dreamed of being. Everyone seems to constantly try to compare themselves to the best of the best. Of course its good to push yourself to get better. But keep some realistic expectations as well… You should focus on getting better at what you do and at the same time be amazed at the level some musicians have attained.

Guys, forget the "levels" thing, just cultivate something you enjoy doing, in the end, it is just about having fun and feeling good in the process, it always has been...
