I was a single mother with a 4 year old son when I met my soulmate. When he say my son, he immediately loved my son and realized I was his soulmate too. We hot married 4 weeks later and have been married for 49 now yeats. He died of lung cancer but we are still married. He was my son's father! We had a daughter 6 years later and they are brother and sister. My daughter married a single father and brought his 2 year old into our family. I had 6 grandchildren before my husband. There were never any steps in our family when you walked thru our door, we were then one family.

This song just reached out to all blended families, specially us kids who were lucky to finally get that parent we always wanted, even though they didn't have to take on that responsibility. I love my step-dad so much. He came into my life when I was 25, but he's still been more a dad to me then anyone before and I love him for that.

I love that this storytelling comes from his songwriting partner, who was talking about his stepson and Brad said something like, "Let's write a song that will make your wife cry." LOL It's so sweet and sincere, but the motivation is a little more playful -- which kind of makes it perfect for Brad Paisley.

This was my life growing up. My mom left my abusive dad and met my mom being a single mom of two daughters. I was only 3 years old and my sister was 1. This song reminds me of my step dad. RIP Dad.
