This song came out shortly after my mom started dating "the man I call my dad." I spent my own allowance on a copy of the cassette tape (CASSETTE TAPE) that had this song on it for him for the first Fathers Day they were dating because I heard it in the car on the way to the grocery store and I cried my little eight year old eyes out. He put it in his truck and if he changed vehicles, even for like a week, it moved over. When he finally got a truck that didn't have a tape player in it, he almost immediately tracked down a copy of the CD. It's been 20 years and he still has that song in his truck--a CD in his personal truck and it's downloaded to his iPod for playing in his work truck.

I lost my step dad in 2007 and I miss him so much..even to this day. There are times when I something will happen and I want to call him to tell him about it. People say over time, you forget the sound of someone's voice, but I've never forgotten. He'll never know how much he's missed. He was a great dad!

This song came out right around the time I adopted my son. My wife and I had been married just over a year, with my first biological child on the way. It brought to mind when I was dating his mom, I knew it was a package deal going into it. Both or none. I married into a 5 year old's life. The best compliment he's ever given me was "Dad I don't think I can do what you did. Accepting someone else's child as my own." He's 31 now. This song always takes me back to that time. I am proud of my two sons. No "step" they are my boys.

Billy, my stepdad passed away last week, and I just wanted to thank you for reminding me of this song. I saw this video about a month ago, and when my dad was very sick in the hospital and we were alone and talking for a while, I thought about this song, and I made a point to tell him how grateful I was for being the dad that he didn't have to be. I made sure to tell him how much I loved him, how much he meant to me, and how much I appreciated everything he did for me. When he passed away two days later while I held his hand, I was fortunate enough to know that I didn't leave anything left unsaid. Thanks again for posting this video and reminding me of this song when I needed to hear it.

This song is a direct reflection of my life. My dad died when I was 4.. Then my mom re-married when I was 6 - and that man is the most honorable person I know and has far exceeded his responsibilities as a father.

To learn about the heart of true country music, “This is Country Music” - Brad Paisley. I’ve heard you say that Country music talks about things you’ve never heard in other songs. I saw a reaction to a Brad Paisley love song by a beautiful young lady recently as well. She broke into tears because she said she had never heard a song where a woman was treated so respectfully and loved. There are different philosophies and mindsets in all genres of music, tv and movies, but This is Country Music reminds me of the best parts.

I love Brad Paisley's music, and he's one of my favorite "modern" country artists. And this song is definitely one of my favorites of his. He's one of those that can do deeply touching and also very humorous songs equally well. (As an example, try checking out "Come On Over Tonight", "I'm Gonna Miss Her", or "Two Feet of Topsoil" for humorous ones, and "Who Needs Pictures?", "We Danced", and "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" for more emotional ones.)

I was raised by a single mother who found love when I was in me teens. She told him right from the start and he had to take a step back to think if he could raise 3 kids and I'm so lucky to say he is my dad in every way that counts. He has lived us and been there whenever we have needed him so this song is about my dad x

I heard this song alot when I was little and now it speaks wonders to me hearing it again. I have an almost 2 year old son. He isn't my blood but I stepped up to be his momma when he was 3 months old. He went through open heart surgery at 8 months old and his father and I stayed at the hospital for nearly 2 weeks and his biological mother was there for a total of 3 hours (I took time off of work to be there for him, she has never had a job in her life so imo there's no excuse for her to not be there) his first word was mamma and he was looking right at me when he said it ♥️ kids know love not blood. So long story short not only shout-out to all the dad's that didn't have to be, but also all the moms that didn't have to be. It's less common but it does exist.

My Dad stepped up the day I was born because the donor stepped out and adopted me when I was 7. I am so thankful that he did because he really didn’t have to raise me and be the amazing Dad he was and still is.

I love this song because I’m adopted and my parents didn’t have to be! I love them to my grave for wanting me. I am now a step father and can only hope my kids feel this way. I do my best.

I once heard that he and one of his songwriter buddies were hanging out trying to write songs and the buddy's step son came in to talk to the buddy and it inspired the song
