Brad Paisley - Welcome To The Future
When I was ten years old,
I remember thinkin' how cool it would be,
When we were goin' on an eight hour drive,
If I could just watch T.V.
And I'd have given anything
To have my own PacMan game at home.
I used to have to get a ride down to the arcade;
Now I've got it on my phone.
He-e-ey...
Glory glory hallelujah.
Welcome to the future.
My grandpa was in World War II,
He fought against the Japanese.
He wrote a hundred letters to my grandma;
Mailed em from his base in the Philippines.
I wish they could see this now,
Where they say this change can go.
Cause I was on a video chat this morning
With a company in Tokyo.
He-e-ey...
Everyday is a revolution.
Welcome to the future.
He-e-ey...
Look around it's all so clear.
He-e-ey...
Wherever we would go and well we...
He-e-ey...
So many things I never thought I'd see...
Happening right in front of me.
I had a friend in school,
Running-back on a football team,
They burned a cross in his front yard
For asking out the home-coming queen.
I thought about him today,
Everybody who's seen what he's seen,
From a woman on a bus
To a man with a dream.
He-e-ey...
Wake up Martin Luther.
Welcome to the future.
He-e-ey...
Glory glory hallelujah.
Welcome to the future.

“From a woman on a bus, to a man with a dream”. It’s rare that 12 well thought out words can hold so much meaning, so much emotion, so much history.

All of the people posting hateful comments just don't get it. This song isn't about politics. It's recognizing how far our country has come over the past 50-75 years. When you actually think about that, it's amazing. Do we have our problems? Sure. But it's important to recognize how far we've come. Rock On Brad! I've loved your music since 1999 and still do today.

It's been over a decade since this song first aired. And yet, its message is for the ages. Only Brad Paisley can write a song like this and nail the emotions performing it to perfection. THIS IS COUNTRY MUSIC! AND WE DO love you, Brad!

I must admit, I never even gave Brad Paisley a chance at first because I'm such a huge fan of Hank Williams, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, etc., and I've never been a fan of modern country, let alone popular artists who still wear cowboy hats. I was wrong. Dead wrong. Brad Paisley is a wonderful songwriter. This song, for example, was so clearly about Obama and the time of his election, and yet the lyrics only imply it instead of nailing it down with current specifics, which would eventually have dated the song, and instead it is lasting and universal. He's a real songwriter, and a craftsman. I am glad I discovered his music and gave it a chance.

I remember riding around town listening to this song right after Obama’s election, just proud that we made history. I’m white, not political at all, but this song just moved me. It’s just a shame what the future actually held in store for all of us versus the future we have since experienced. Maybe we will all learn one day, though I doubt it.

Brings tears to my eyes every time. Although racism is not dead, Barack Obama's ascent to the presidency was a moment of immense historical and emotional significance for all those who have struggled and continue to fight against senseless hatred and systemic oppression... I definitely applaud Brad Paisley's decision to play this song, which invokes the pain of racism and the memory of those who sacrificed their bodies to fight for equality in order to poignantly acknowledge the immense weight of America voting a man into its highest political office who, in other decades, wouldn't have even been able to vote himself...

07:58 min mark is the my favorite part. The simple, humble and realization of how monumental the his presidential achievement changed the world for good. Not talking politics and stuff just for the greater good of the us a people. We are all just people. The tear of raw emotion Brad has at the end speaks volumes of how great this moment time was.

But he also said they had propellant powder he brought to gunners before he was a commissioned officer, when he did it as a gunner's mate just to help the gunners have it to shoot em (ammo shells) from the big guns. He did it while on Convoy Duty on a allied forces military ship after dropping out of school before his GED was aquired. ❤

I'm only 39 and I'm a native born American from Mexican ancestors. With all due respect and all sincerity, it breaks my heart how the average African American , Mexican American and all other non white youth today have absolutely no idea what this country used to be like before the Civil Rights movement. I shake my head in sorrow every day how they just don't understand. My deepest respects to those who suffered and paved the way for us to have the bit of corrupted equal rights we have today. Your sacrifices are still not yet forgotten in the hearts of many. #salute #respect

Such a moving song and such a powerful moment in history coming together - election of our first black President inspiring this amazing artist to write such a beautiful and profound meditation on the dizzying pace of technological and social change. I like to think these two luminaries from "Red" and "Blue" America felt a bond that transcended that divide for at least the performance of this song at the White House.

Glory Glory Hallelujah! "Burned a Cross on his front yard for asking out the homecoming Queen. From a Woman on a bus to a Man with a dream..." Chills and tears everytime Brad Paisley sings those words. Where is that hope we had nine years ago?g I need to listen to this song every once in a while to remember, to know we can feel that way again. First, we have so much healing to do from the Pandemhic, the instability and fear we suffered under Trump's racist and hateful divisionism andour own feelings of powerlessness in the face of blatant lies. "Welcome to the future!" ÛPeople, let's find that unity and hope Again!

say what you will about Obama’s presidency, his inauguration was a big historical moment for the US. & Brad Paisley performing really calls back to the origins of country music. it used to be a genre about fighting back against an unjust world. the original country musicians were moonshiners who defied a corrupt government & its unjust laws. Johnny Cash wrote songs protesting the Vietnam war. that’s not to say country music was “liberal”, just that it was about true freedom above all else, regardless of political parties. it seems like that’s lost today with so many country songs being explicitly conservative.

I don't know,. But do know people losing both legs who can't swim as fast as and as far some guy when she tries escape capture but gets raped by the enemy (as is too common) Remember when American Soldiers who are female and become a POW they sadly reportedly get raped at times, both legs surgically cut off without need and without consent and otherwise tormented by captures while POW, before they are murdered by those who capured what's worse? I don't know frankly. What if it was your wife or mine who joined The Navy and went on a Tier 1 Unit Mission as a Team Member (Navy Seals) and that was to stop sexism because Obama want her to feel empowered? That's Overtness but what's not to.overt to me is Woman running The CIA, FBI and being the boss of all Navy Opperations at the Pentagon as a 4 Star General and even a sworn Civilian Leader of DoD to stop sexism and other overt things. But what's not overt is also this outsome When our wives, sisters and any other females are empowered to vote and run for US Senate Armed Services Committee Chairperson and should be a fine leader to give me, man orders. All because Obama said so, costs alot Specifically Private Jessica Lynch lives and has two legs due to American Soldiers like her and others. But some American Soldiers come back like this, with draped over them. It's not unisex sports it's military governance and personal politics at times these days. But it's not always why this sad outcome occurs for loved ones, and a individual of helpful, brave, sort who died in the line of duty. Specifically a duty to save, protect. defend us from overtness
