Yeah unfortunately that is not an option with Apple's captions, but mCaptions animations are pretty great.

Awesome tutorial thanks! mCaptions has been almost great, there's lot's of "ghost" captions and sometimes blank segments for no reason but probably will get fixed in the future.

The biggest down side for me is when you do captions for a vertical video, it is an extremely long line of text like a horizontal video. If we could customize how many words or characters that would be clutch. But this definitely speeds up the work flow for sure!

Yeah I hear you. mCaptionsAI from motionVFX is pretty great for customizing the the number of characters and for vertical video placements.

Je n'avais aucune idée que KZbin avait commencé à faire ça, mais apparemment, la traduction par IA vers d'autres langues a été activée sur mes vidéos. Ainsi, en cliquant sur l'icône d'engrenage du lecteur KZbin, vous pouvez changer la piste audio de l'audio par défaut vers une autre langue. C'est très pratique pour rendre la vidéo accessible aux personnes qui parlent d'autres langues. KZbin fait juste son truc. 😄

When I export captions out of FCP they export as .ITT and not as .SRT like in your example (2:05) - I can't find a way to change this file type, thoughts?

You need to convert the caption format before exporting. This article form Apple will help: support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/final-cut-pro/ver243c646c5/mac

You can right click (select one or all of your captions) and then select Assign Captions roles - you may need to add a new role as SRT format. SRT seems to be easiest for exporting and opening in a text editor.

Forget titles. I want transcription in the clip browser. Add a new browser column that breaks a clip down into short sections of text.

Hey @brad_west - thanks for the video. I need the title subtitles for a vertical video and when I import XML the titles are too many characters to a line and the project containing the titles is landscape - is there any way to get these nearly a vertical friendly format?

You could select them all by using the roles in the index window, or select them by holding down Command and dragging a selection over the titles to select them in batches.

It's very useful, and accurate, but I'm annoyed that its a faff to get them out of the 'standard' formats and fonts. I use FCP for creating shorts/reels/tiktok too and the instagram captions feature is far more versatile for this type of content because you can easily choose fonts and styles rather than the industry standards.

Seems like they've half baked it. You'd still get more flexibility exporting your video and adding them over the top especially for vertical edits where you don't want full sentences, and the fact you still have to export the caption to convert to titles it madness. Who thought it would be a good idea to stop there?!

You could use mCaptions to generate the captions in Spanish, and then export the SRT file and use ChatGPT to translate to English. The save the SRT file and reimport into FCP. It's a bit of a workaround but probably the most efficient way. Apple does not currently support captions in other languages other than English, that's why you would need mCaptions in this case.

For God's sake, CapCut does subtitles masterfully, it is disgusting that Apple presents an update that took years with this ridiculous limitation of subtitles. I thought it was a terrible update.
